2021 John Deere had record forth quarter profits. John Deere predicts 2022 they will even have bigger profits. When does John Deere considered something sold, when it’s ordered or when it’s delivered to farmer. Just wondering how they can have record profits when you hear about farmers ordered something almost a year ago but won’t get this spring.

They have a construction/forestry line a general consumers line, Powertrain and engines and you have your merchandising plus parts.
Some delaid tractors or a dismal x9 launch isn't hurting especially when you see what they are charging!

remember the shortage of 4430's back in the 70's. prob the same thing - create the shortage but for this amount it may show up sooner. I know of 3 guys that worked for a local JD dealership that each had 6-8 tractors stuck in their sheds. JD would drop them off in the dead of the night.

Easy..... so easy when you are Deere. People are literally lining up to buy stuff. They shoved the price of iron up, didnt slow down orders. People pay up front hoping that makes a difference whether they get their machine in time. (personally i dont understand why anyone would agree to any new machine with their current delivery timeline) Construction industry is in a boom right now too, and they cant build those machines fast enough either. Also, look at the John Deere merchandise that's EVERYWHERE...Deere has made money every time their logo is sold; good call on the marketing team.

I may be 100% wrong on this but years ago didn’t Deere sell their logo or rights to their logo. I thought that was why every t shirt and ball cap store sold John Deere branded apparel?

They do royalties on it, there was an article in Toy Farmer about how one small manufacturer makes IH, Case, NH, CIH, Agco and its heritage, and "Green and yellow", because compared to the others, Deere wanted a ton of money just for the use of their name on the sticker, so you had to go buy the sticker from someone else.

Donnellson, IA. Makes saying here easier.
And as long as everyone keeps buying it nothing will change. Especially when you throw in their credit services too. Once you get so big it's hard to not make money when you have your hand in so many pools. I would love to have some green paint someday, but currently it just doesn't pencil as a new farmer. Lots of other colors do the job on less coins.

Not sure how it works with the Ag OEM's but the auto OEM consider a vehicle "SOLD" as soon as it crosses the exit door from the factory. When it crosses the door, the ownership is officially transferred to a 3rd party that is responsible for delivery to the dealer

It is the same. Once the machines are off the line and sitting in the parking lot they are owned by the dealer not JD anymore. That is in the US. In Canada the laws are different and the new inventory at dealer lots is still owned by the manufacturer.

They went a month without paying factory workers?
Seriously though the Ag and CE industries are way up in retail sales. Supply can't catch demand and there is not much inventory sitting on the lots so the turns are quick. Parked inventory costs money.

Nothing new. Everything goes in cycles. I know back in the 70's, dad waited a long time to get a new combine because of the backlog of orders.
As far as profits, Deere has many other things generating money beside farm equipment
