Subject: flow control issues on MX magnum

Central Illinois - west of Peoria

weve got a 2004 MX 210 that the flow control has become erratic when you run the vac motor on the 3rd valve . Always worked fine before , just noticed it when finishing planting last year and would like it fixed . Is there something that wears in those valves that causes this ? Are the valves rebuildable or do you need to order a complete new valve ? Tractor has around 3000 hrs . thanks

I would start by changing the male quick couplers on those hoses, have had the ball get loose and cause weird problems.

Hydraulic valve calibration may help, as well as arm controller calibration

The others have given you good advice, and hopefully this isn't your problem, but....

Gen. II MX Magnums had a lot of problems with the signal checks in the remote valves...the seats for the check valves would get hammered out, causing signal pressure to the pump to vary...causing erratic flow. Unfortunately, these seats were internal in the valve and not serviceable.

The best way to test for this is to set a remote valve to a certain flow/pressure(I use a flowmeter for best results...and set it for 10 GPM and 2000psi). Then, one at a time, bump all of the other remote valves into float position. If the flow changes by more than a half-gallon GPM, the signal check for remote valve is leaking.

Unfortunately, if you have any remote valve that fails, you more or less have to replace all of the remote valves, not just the bad one. The remote valves from parts are the updated style used on the Gen. III MX Magnums that use external signals checks that were far more reliable. Its spendy to update them all, but its about the only way to do it.

Good luck!!

I’ve come to the conclusion that more than likely the seat is hammered out like you say . In the parts book they offer a reman valve - would replacing the no 3 valve slice fix my problem ? Service guy at cnh dealer acted like only need to replace the one valve that was giving problems. At 2300 each I’d hate to have to buy all three ?
Thanks for the help

Unfortunately, you cant mix and match old valves with new valves. More or less the " all or none" principle applies here.

Also, with signal check problems, its usually a valve that is working properly that has the problem. Signal checks are used on other valves when you are using the valve that is exhibiting the problem.

Like I say, its usually an expensive problem to fix.

Good luck.
