Last night I went to start my Rancher 420, it started fine, but I thought to myself the starter made a different noise. I rode it a bit, shut it off, and all it would do was click at the solenoid. So, today, I bought a new solenoid, put it on, and it still will only click. Battery is good. What now?

The grounds have been a problem on ours. Don't remember which specific one but has been several times.

Had a friend with the exact problem. It was the brushes in the starter. It's a common problem. It only cost him 42 dollars at a starter repair shop.

+1

You can buy a brush kit for about $15. Not that hard to install.

We had to take the starter out and free it. Put it back in and it's been working since.

On my pioneer, the magnets came loose in the starter. Just out of warranty. Bought aftermarket starter on eBay for about $50.

Starter brushes, Change them all the time on our Hondas. Not sure on your year, but you need probably #2 and #3. Once you have the starter off you can change them in under 10 minutes with a small socket set. Here's the link to the starter breakdown http://www.cheapcycleparts.com/oemparts/a/hon/53f21b55f870021c8062d...

On our Foreman 500's I have had the starters lose ground. I had removed starter and checked it off of the engine and it seemed to work fine so reinstalled and it worked good. I don't remember if it was a ground wire or if I just cleaned the mounting surface.

That is if you are man enough to pull the one on a Foreman 500. That thing can really jerk a kink in you.

My 2015 rubicon did that. Only 1000 miles on it. The starter magnets came apart. New starter fixed that
