Ne Iowa		Do you guys use strictly Ac Delco fuel filters on your Duramax or will a CARQUEST filter fit the bill? Thanks

I use the Wix filter, they taper down in size, helps out with the tight area they got them in. Been using them for a few years now and no issues.

Lincoln, North Dakota		Delco's are good filters others will work I would just stay away from the plastic housing filters and only use the metal housing filters

Black Hawk County, IA		Always used the Delco, until last year. Tried a Wix, it leaked at the drain, got another one and truck was hard to start after sitting a couple days. Figured it was letting air in, changed back to Delco, no more problems. Your results may vary. J

Just make sure it has a 2 micron rating, some are 5 micron which let's bigger particles threw n wreck injectors faster

NC Iowa		I got a napa filter from the local napa. Guy said they used them on their vehicles. Didn't ask about microns but i will. Might take it back if not a 2 micron, like i read about here. New to a duramax but learning.

Been using NAPA filter for years, tapered so it is lot easier to install.

NW Ohio		I have been running the CARQUEST 86960XE for the life of my truck. Change the filter faithfully at 10,000. I have 423,000 miles on my 2006 with original injectors so, I think it does the job. It is a 4 micron filter, with the steel body.

I think the later model Duramax changed how the fuel filter life is calculated. They 06 model just did a countdown from 10,000 miles.

Texas		They last forever it seems. My 16 duramax I traded in showed it had 43% fuel filter life left and I had 21k miles on it and had never changed the filter.

Anamoose, ND		A company called Nicktane makes a adaptor so you can run a 2 micron Cat filter on your Duramax. The cat filter is a half the price versus a OEM filter.

NC Iowa		I was wondering if the lower microns filters draw harder or more subject ro gelling issues.

Would something like a combine lift pump be a way to take the load off the pump? That would be cheaper than the $600 setup.

For the guys running a cat filter you have to remember you've lost your water separator. On my truck I added a second filter housing on the frame rail (before my aftermarket lift pump) that I put a true water separator on. Donaldson makes a fuel/water separator with a 2 mic rating. Water will wreck a fuel system as fast or faster than dirt.

I have the CAT fuel filter adapter on my 2015. The kit also came with an aluminum bleeder plug. You will not find a better filter than a CAT, no matter what anyone tries to tell you. Go buy one of each and cut them open and see for yourself. The micron rating and build quality on a 1R-0750 CAT fuel filter far exceeds anything Delco, Wix, Donaldson, anybody puts out.

Pennsylvania		Donaldson and cat Are In partner they call it AFSI " Advanced filtration system inc." pretty much the same thing only thing I notice the overall construction of the Donaldson filters are not as heavy. When cutting each of them filter apart you can tell trust me you work a little harder on the cat

Ok, trying to lay on a creaper and looking underneath. hard to follow the lines. I think i will need a lift to work on any lines. So how you run the line to the water separator you installed?

SW Ohio		My next dmax is getting a fass twin filter lift pump on the frame rail and completely deleting all that hard to get to rubbish under the hood. The nicktane adapter I had was great till the filter head leaks fuel or air. Lift pump helps longevity of cp3/cp4 pump too".

Ok, trying to lay on a creaper and looking underneath. hard to follow the lines. I think i will need a lift to work on any lines. So how you run the line to the water separator you installed?


On my CCSB I cut a section out of the hard line and slid rubber hose over it with hose clamps, then ran rubber hose to lift pump, and then rubber hose out of the lift pump to connect back to the hard line. On my regular cab space is tight so I ordered a quick fitting with a hose barb and ran rubber hose directly off of the pick up on the fuel tank to outside of he frame rail to lift pump then connected back to hard line inside the frame rail up near the transmission.
A FASS or air dog set up eliminates all the factory fuel lines up to the motor but they are also pricy. All of the feed lines on a duramax are 1/2" I believe.

North Liberty and South Bend, Indiana		On those engines its highly recommended you only run delco or parkers or racor. All others are not up to snuff on micron ratings, and even the newest racors may not be as good as the older filters.

I would be willing to bet all the filters are made same place with different names. I doubt GM or makes any filters, just buys them with Delco name on it. AC Delco is now Delphi which does not mfg. anything in this country.

North Liberty and South Bend, Indiana		The Delco filters were made by either parker or racor. They were the best filters. GM changed filter numbers a few years ago and i dont know who is making them.

Pennsylvania		Car quest, ac delco all good I run Baldwin fuel filters when it's a stock application or recommend the adapter with cat or Donaldson. Stay away from the plastic housing. Some people might have luck with them but more have had bad luck. The stock fuel filler "steel casing" traps more water The way they are designed then other aftermarket filter's and the cat/ Donaldson.

Northeast CO		I've done the nicktane adapter and use cat spin on filters that are about $20 a piece. They are better filters.
