I have a 2013 or 2014 Polaris 900 with electric power steering. It got caught out in a fairly large rain storm the other night. When I tried to move it, the transmission belt slipped. This had happened before and is due to water getting in the belt housing. There is a drain plug that I have out. This eventually drained out and I was able to move in low gear. After a while the belt was fine and I could move as usual.
I have some problem with the steering now. Normally the electric steering is on a timer and will time out if the key is left on for a long period of time. For example, if I turn the key back on to listen to the radio without starting the engine, the steering stays on for a while and then times out. If I just start the engine I don't have steering. Turning the key to the OFF position and restarting starts the timer and I have steering again. That is the normal operation.
Right now I can't get the steering to come to life no matter what I do. The steering and engine icons in the dash are on indicating a problem. I checked all the fuses under the seat and they appear OK and check with a meter. There is a relay that has EPS on it. I swapped this relay with the next relay with no improvement. Are there some other fuses or connections I could check?

Ours does that because of the speed pickup senser. If you put it in low and hold it to the floor on the road for 30 seconds or more it will reset and work as normal for a long time before it acts up again. I don't know if it is your problem or not, but it is easy to try.

Have you pulled the codes yet? Shift it in to neutral, hold the yellow over ride in for 20 seconds, then turn the key to the on positioin. If you use the yellow over ride, should be able to pull codes.

I'm confused about the yellow over ride, I don't recall seeing a yellow button. TIA

Try this. Looks like your model does not have a reverse override.

If your voltage starts dropping the first thing that quits working is the power steering. I suspect it's set up this way so the power steering doesn't bleed off all of the voltage and leave you sit. The first thing I would do is charge the battery up.

Thanks for the tips - will try them today and report back. When I tried moving it in low with the wet belt, the RPM did get quite high, this may have caused the problem.

I backed the Ranger out of the shed this morning again with no power steering. Both the steering and engine icons were lit as before. I drove around my shed in low and watched the RPM. I got it above 4000 RPM and by the time I got around the shed, the engine icon went to normal. The steering icon was still lit and no power steering. I turned the key to the OFF position, waited a bit and restarted the engine. The steering icon went to normal and I had steering again.
It appears everything has return to "normal". Thanks again.

So you are thinking it was low voltage? I was thinking that trying to move with the belt slipping because it was wet caused the problem.
