I put Sukup drying floor, auger and fan in a 20 x 42' harvestore silo that has not been used in years. I'm thinking I can put 17-18% corn in and dry it with the fan. Is my thinking off? Corn should be out of there by March, but I would like to be selling no more than 15.% corn. Thanks

I wouldn't fill it all the way, unless you have A LOT of fan power. Maybe fill a 1/3 and dry then add a little at a time. J

You really need to add roof vents as well. Make sure you have the correct CFM and you will be fine.

We've had good luck with 16 percent corn in ours. Many years its the last thing we fill when the corn is finally dry enough.

Can I ask what the floor cost you and if you put it in yourself or hired it done? I'm figuring on doing the same with my 20x32 Harvestore.. I've also thought about drying it and storing it in the unit and sealing it up as it's air tight I would think it would keep fine...I know when i used to milk cows I'd put it in at 18% and it did have that sealed unit smell but the corn would stay perfect in it for a couple years if I didn't get it emptied out..

The kit was around $9,000. My son and I installed it in a couple of afternoons.

I use my 20x60 Harvestore for dry corn. Corn goes through an auto batch dryer then blown up a 5 inch tube with a grain vac. I have a 5 hp aeration fan on a perforated tube for moving air through the corn. I try to have it moved out before summer, as there seems to be more moisture migration with the dark blue color than with a regular grain bin.

Should work great with air. Have quite a few neighbors that fill their harvestors with dry corn, like some already have stated move the corn before May 1st.

We fill a 20x70 harvestore and 21x65 sealstore no problem with a 7414 Walinga. Have full floor with high capacity Brock centrifugal fans. No problem with air flow. No extra vents on the roofs, just the Walinga cyclones and the old vents from the bags that we cut out. Have put in 18% corn comes out at 16%. Have silos emptied by spring.

Here's how I fill mine. One silo has vents on top the other I just open and close the door. Fiilled with a grain vac for many years then cut the holes. I put 18% corn in mine and run fans for a while and cooled down will haul out this winter. 20 x 80 silos. The door is 43ft up. Get 10500 bu.

I used to work with a guy who did the exact same thing with putting a hole in side and filling with an auger but he put soybeans in it. Everyone in town said it would tip over.... i was curious myself because you really get a slope.

I have one other question... How hard is it to drill the holes in the wall for the flashing? (or can a person just make a small hole with a torch?)

As far as the blue color collecting heat has anyone ever tried to paint one of these white or silver to reflect the heat or would it be cost prohibitive?

Another thing I person mentioned to me was they claimed the unloading auger needed to be on the opposite side as the cooling fan... (any thoughts on this?)

Also how do you go about spreading the corn out so it's even on top so the air flow is consistent in the Harvestore also...?
Thanks for your patience with all my questions... :)

I don't remember having any trouble drilling small holes through the sides....bigger holes for the new door above the unload auger on the other hand...they were kind of tough.

The kit isn't hard to put in, if you know anything at all about drying floors you'll be golden.

On ours the cooling fan went where the original unloading auger came out--in the feed room. The new unloading auger is opposite the fan- sitting outside.

I'm glad I converted ours....better than it sitting empty. Seems like 16% is about all the wetter you want to put it in if you expect to dry it down. I filled the last two rings with 20% one time but then ran the fan off and on all winter as I ground feed out of it and in the spring when emptying it all the grain blended perfectly. They won't do what a regular grain bin will do but are still handy and a good modification in my book.

I have heard of sucking the air from the top down, I wonder what you guys think of that idea? btw, is there anywhere in Wi. where a person could still get a floor and unloading system like you have(or NE Iowa)...Thinking I might have time to put one in this fall yet if I can get ahold of one...
Thanks...
