What tires would work best on a wheel loader for loading manure in sloppy conditions? There would also be a fair amount of road travel from field to field.

The Galaxy Giant Hippos look best but are fairly expensive and don't look very road friendly.

The Feed Yard Grabbers look like they might be a good compromise between road manners and traction.

The duals would be a cheaper option with additional stability and the ability to easily remove for stone work. I don't know how much they would help in the mud and they would be fairly wide on the road. May also be hard on the drivetrain.

How large of wheel loader and tire size? We run 28lx26 forestry tires on 3 loaders and have one set of 23.5x25 galaxy hippos they have worked good in mud but we don't road our loaders so can not say about road wear.

I'll second the 28L-26 forestry specials, we run them on 3 different 624 jd's . Cant beat it for flotation and traction in anything but ice or snow. They also see way more road travel than I would like to admit, and they hold up well. These tires also make the machine feel much more stable.

I prefer radials for road time. There is a reason all tractors have gone to radials. Obviously, 2nd picture is my choice. 3 loaders set up that way and just got the 4th set to go in the shed until I need them.

The duals are mine. Never used them for flotation. They will fill up with mud pretty quick. The dual rims were designed to carry the weight on their own, not sure if the tires could. Our payloaders usually stay on concrete or gravel so the standard tires work well for me.

Jason's tires looked pretty good in person. I think I would go that way if I needed off road traction.

If the duals aren't for flotation are they for stability? Are they smaller diameter than the inside tire? Looks good.

They are for traction and stability when packing silage. They work well. They are 16.9R30 and they match up really close to the 20.5R25 on the loader. Have had them for 10 years now. Don't use them as much since we have bigger packing tractors now, but they still get used every year. Use them on a 524K now.

I am interested in this thread as I am looking for a better tires for a backhoe. The tires on it are bias 15.5-25 and it is the most helpless 4wd machine I have operated. The tires on it are Concept industrial and supposed to have 55 psi.I thought radials might be better as I could use lower pressures.Tire dealer has some Bridgestone radial grader tires with fairly good tread, not sure how they would be offroad.

That's my unit in the first picture. Has some vibration on the road at over 20 mph. Nothing terrible though. Loading manure it gets around as good as any FWA. Doesn't cut in as bad because you're not spinning all the time. Gets excellent traction on ice. Not as good as tire chains but 2x as good as the firestones it had on. They develop slight flat spots overnight. Disappears after a mile down the pavement and not noticeable in the yard. Not sure where they are expensive. A 20 ply was only $150 more than a 16 ply Firestone. $1700 IIRC. Shop around as I found a huge spread on prices. Made a whole new machine out of the 928G and a whole lot cheaper than new rims and skidder tires.

So decent road manners and great traction?

Are they radials?

Did you stick with 20.5s or go up a size?

Thanks

1. Yes. Not as smooth as the firestone bias I had on originally but quite comfortable. Just some vibration but no shuddering. If I was 2500 miles closer I'd say come for a test drive.

2. Bias.

3. 20.5-25 as I didn't want to buy new rims.
