Hello All,
I was just curious who runs this large of a tractor and what you pull with it? I only run a 375 HP and pull 50' implements. So by the same logic you would be pulling 80' implements? Maybe my ground just pulls easy though. It is flat and light ish. Always curious what other farms are doing with fun toys.
Thanks,

We run a 550 quadtrac, and pull a 18' dominator and a 45' soil finisher. Nice not running out of power for once.

With our JD 9560R we pull a 60ft JD 1830 drill with a 430 cart.  Don't need all that hp but its nice to run 1800 rpms up and down our hills.  And it does take a little hp to pull a fully loaded cart. Also, one of my cousins bought a 53ft JD 1820 drill with a 430 cart.  His tractor was a CIH 9280.  Pulled it fine but the first hill he got to he was down to 1st gear by the time he got to the top.  A few days later a STX 450 showed up.  No more hp problems.

Southeast Washington

In the hills of the Pacific Northwest most need the big power to overcome the hills. Now it appears most new tractors in the grain farming are 450 plus horsepower with 375 now seeming small. The biggest air drill that I know of in the area is 50 feet wide. When the ground levels out some away from the mountain I know of 60 foot air drills. Many are pulling a 36 to 45 foot fertilizing machine and 30 to 40 foot with a few 50 foot drills. We pull a 46 foot air drill and 750 bushel grain carts because that is about as big as can be pulled and not putting a lot of money into fixing oops when running across the hills.

Watford City, ND
In western NoDak, dealerships sell way more 4wd's than MFWD because in wheat country, 50 and 60' air seeders with 350 - 550 bu (sometimes bigger) air carts are the norm. Takes weight and it's nice to have the ponies.

In eastern ND, in the RRV for example, 4wd's are used more so for tillage, and planters are pulled by large MFWDs. Although, planters are getting to the point where it's nice to have a larger tractor in front.

We run a 535 quad with a 45' FCoil drill, along with an older 9270 pulling a TBT 51' FCoil. We just upgraded tractors for this year, and a newer, larger drill will be coming someday.

Optimizer, made in Modesto CA by Billington MFG

http://tillagemanagement.com/optimizer.php
http://billington-mfg.com/tillage
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIe382NZSXY

The biggest problem with the optimizer when it first came out was it was designed to work in the Sand on the east side of the valley. When it came over to the westside of the valley where there is heavy clay coupled with soil that is high in lime there wasn't enough horsepower at the time available on the market to pull it at the speeds required for the finishing tools to work properly.

Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot
I love it when you see an Optimizer or Eliminator advertised as 'minimum tillage' or 'conservation till'... which in all reality for here it is... but that is a somewhat regional thing.

Guys here have been looking at getting something like that, for years no one had any tractors big enough since they only wanted row crop (MFWD) tractors. But a few guys have been buying some of those 'bend in the middle' tractors that were always too big before, and looking at something like that to do one pass tillage ahead of the rototillers in the spring. A 9-11 shank ripper can also eat up all the horsepower a 500 hp machine has if you want to pull it very fast.

The other thing you see high hp being used for here is pulling scrapers. I ran a set of pans behind an 85 E at 400 hp I think? and you could have used 100 more pretty easy.

Neighbor that I help some runs a 9510r. Pulls a 45' TM II 30' Krause accelerator and a 7 shank landoll weatherproofer 2 with it. He had a 9300 before the 9510r. Needed more power on the accelerator was the main reason. I was running in 15th gear at 1600 rpm running over corn stalks with it.

32’ disk chisel will put the lights out on 500hp if you run it deep enough in tight soil. Comfortable on a 45' soil finisher. 375 HP wouldn't touch either of them.
