Subject: LuK cerametallic clutch disc in 3/4 and 1 ton trucks

LuK is a German company that is recognized for building quality clutch products for heavy machinery, trucks, farm tractors, automobiles, etc. I have a LuK clutch set with the standard organic clutch to install in Ford F-350 4x4 7.3 diesel with a Banks system. . Have heard some good reports on LuK clutches and that the LuK regular organic is much better than the OEM clutch.. Before I do all the work to install a new clutch I have thought maybe I should step it up to a LuK cerametallic disc which would be stronger but on the otherhand I don't care for / or want a clutch that has alot of hard grab/jerk to it and excessive vibration.

Anyone running a LuK cerametallic clutch and /or the organic clutch? If so what is your experience and opinion of how they perform.

A ceramic stlye clutch is usually way more aggressive and has much more vibration.

Would like to hear more about experience comparison of Cerametallic Clutch Disc vs Organic Clutch Disc

TIA
Have a good day

I put the ceramic disc in mine and don't like it for the reasons you mention. I also miss the dual-mass flywheel. The standard flywheel is 20 lbs. lighter (40 instead of 60) which you notice when taking off from a dead stop. Longevity should help ease my dislikes.

So you liked the dual mass fly wheel. As per to your post dual mass was sweet to use but did not have longevity of service life. Correct?

I had tractor many years ago with a ceramic botton clutch and didn't like it. Still imagine the feel of it grabing / jerking. I was wondering if the LuK cerametallic clutch design may be smoother in more modern technology.

What is your truck and brand clutch are you running ?

If I had it to do over, I would put in the organic disc. I'd have to think long and hard on the flywheel though. I liked the smoothness of the dual-mass but I don't like the idea of it only lasting 100,000 miles. Price is also a factor.
1996 F250 7.3 Luk clutch kit.

Edit: The reason I went with the ceramic was because it was shifting hard. The old clutch was not releasing properly. The ceramic disc is lighter so that makes less work for the synchronizers. The new clutch releases so well though that I don't think the ceramic was necessary.

I have a Luk clutch in my Mustang. It's not the ceramic but it's comparable to the Ford Racing brand clutch or so I was told. It is very smooth and predictable while driving.

Put a ceramic in my dodge Cummins and hate it. Very grabby. Holds power well but not fun to use when backing up trailers. Just no slip in them to ease clutch in and out. Will go back to organic on next one.

I bought a kevlar clutch from Valair. Have not got it installed yet. My research says it is a good driving clutch rated for 500 hp. The heavy duty OEM replacement that was in this truck slips after we installed a bunch of modifications. Good luck.

Was the heavy duty OEM replacement a Valeo?

I have converted a number of Ford 7.3 Powerstrokes to the single flywheel. I have never regretted it. I have also been satisfied with the kevlar clutch I put in one of the trucks. Even with the organic clutches, we pull trailers, and are chipped, we get around 200K miles out of them. Any good clutch will probably give satisfactory results.

Not sure. It is in truck yet. Works OK if you stay off the gas pedal. Changing it out this winter.
