Subject: Marine fuel pump vs automotive fuel pump........

Central Mo

I've got a Mercruiser engine that is getting fuel inthe oil.  I'm gonna try and find a fuel pump for it but being a holiday weekend will make it hard to find the marine version. I'd probably have to drive a hundred miles to get one.

What is the difference in a marine and an automotive fuel pump?   Or maybe put on an electric to get me by this weekend.

I have bypassed engine mounted pumps with electric in the past on carburetor type engines, not sure on electronic engines that need more pressure.

My Yamaha (really 4.3l chev) has an elcteric pump feeding the 4 barrel, so its doable

The marine fuel pump that I have, has a glass sentiment bulb that collects fuel when the fuel pump leaks past the diaphram. Any fuel pump that will bolt on the same block will work, you just won't have the safety leak indicator. I would not use any electric pump in the enclosed engine compartment. any chance of ignition of leaking fuel is what you are trying to eliminate. Happy boating. bozranch

Central Mo

Just found out that this week some POS kids let my boat down off of the lift, found the key and were joyriding.

You know they ran it nice and easy so I might have more problems than that.

I'm trying to cool off a little before doing anything about it.

Marine fuel pump has a double diaphragm with a hose that directs any leakage back up to the carb.
