What size do you guys run on your planter for 22in rows? We are currently running 13.6's on our planter tractor, but I hate the pinch row that it makes in plow-plant conditions. I was thinking of running 14.6's on a different tractor, hoping that the added size would add floatation. Maybe I'm thinking about it wrong? By plow plant I mean plow with a spinner plow pulling a packer, then directly planting into it.

We plant 20" rows with the wheel tracks cheated out to 22" with 18.4 single tires and spray with 16.9 tires.

I'd prefer to have 14.9 on the sprayer tractor but I really don't see a lot of need to go narrower than 18.4 in front of the planter. I'm adamantly opposed to duals on the planter tractor.

Just put large flotation tires on the tractor, either 650 or 710 and plow in the tracks. You will not notice a difference between the tracks and outside the tracks.

what size do you run on the front axle and do you carry any liquids on the tractor? if you have saddle or front tanks, how well does the flotations handle the weight, extra wear......etc? thanks

540 or 600 tires for the front. They are rated for a lot more weight than rowcrop tires.

If you put big floaters on you limit what you can use your tractor for after planting ie spraying or side dressing

I run 20 inch rows and use 650 duals on my planter tractor.  Mostly no till but even in tilled ground you can't see the tire tracks and I have done stand counts and kernal counts to compare.

Dallas Center IA 515-720-2463
Planter tractors for any row spacing =

I vote for dualed 710x38 or 30.5x32.
And very low tire air pressure, like 5 - 6 psi.

Or wide 30" tracks on a tracked row crop.

Best if there is not a row under the very center of the tire.

I just bought 380/90R50's to do the same as what you are talking about. Planning to plant, spray, and side dress with these tires, even on some side hills. I am thinking you will be fine.

99% of row crop in this area is on 22" row's. Tires are either a 14.9x46, or now everything is going to the metric equivilent of 380x50's and 380x54's. Work very well
