Subject: Round Up ready sweet corn ?'s

Hello to you all.

I been wanting to try planting some RR sweet corn for the past couple of years...tired of weeding by hand.

I normally plant with my home built 2 row 7000 planter, 30 in rows,

We are used to varieties like Ambrosia ( yellow / white mix ) , Silver or all white and then some of the golden.

Will this taste as sweet or good as the non roundup ? , never had any before.

What are the spraying limitations as far as timing that Round Up can be sprayed ? meaning up until silk or ?????

Any other comments or things you like about it or not ?

Thanks in advance.

Rog

I planted RR from golden harvest last year. was yellow with some white. best corn I've ever had from anywhere. Can't wait to plant the same stuff again. planted it right in my field corn. made just fine in Oklahoma heat on dryland.

I think it is just as sweet and last year we got the viptera sweet corn and it was excellent with no worms on the ears. Have to read roundup label to know spray interval and we have also used impact in sweet corn patch if you are worried about flavor.

We've planted rrsweetcorn for 3 years. This year am going back to Ambrosia. RRsweet corn tastes fine out of the patch but everyone in my family doesn't like it as well after its been frozen.

King City, Mo
There’s different levels of sweetness and eating quality on sweet corns when you look at the seed books.

They don’t tell you that it doesn’t like wet feet or soil placement but they tell you eating quality so that’s the trade off.

I’ve moved to the Stx style corn that is rr/LL/BT. Both of these are “triple sweets”

Quick trip is a 72 day bi color I’m trying this year

Pursuit is a longer season bi color that went over extremely well last year.

Your looking at $380+ For 25k seeds and you gotta have a tech agreement for those sweet corns on file with syngenta.

I use to buy from rupp but their customer service went to crap. I was buying $6k of stuff a year from them and they demanded an answer in 24hrs on what I wanted to order last fall and couldn’t get the quick trip seed at all.

Back in summer of 2020 I needed one more bag of pursuit and they said it was sold out too.

Low and behold the first supplier I contacted last summer had pursuit and in January of this year my supplier could still get me the quick trip I wanted.

So just remember the seed salesmen for rupp lie just as much as corn seed salemen.

Just placed my order for another 2,500 seed bag of Obsession 2 from Holmes. Ate a quart of it from the freezer last night and everyone was happy.

partial agree with you. Fresh from the patch, it is not as good as a nongmo.
