Southeast Florida | Where could I find an aftermarket or 8 good used 23.1X34 tires? Michelin's are $2,450 each and bias are $1,200 each where I've called. We have an older tractor with them and it needs new skins.

We have an older tractor with them and it needs new skins. Wow. Maybe it would be cheaper to get some new/used rims with a more common tire size? 18.4X34, or something? Surely you could get some good used rims at some tractor wrecking yard.

Dallas Center IA 515-720-2463 | Welcome to new tire 'Sticker Shock' I got it late last summer. And because of the price of new rubber, used tires are as rare as hens teeth. I sure would like to put a couple 23.1Rx34 Firestone RAT on my Oliver 2255. Lots of money! Try Tire Town In Kansas City. New puter so I don't have the WWW or phone or address.

Just read a comment by titan CEO Mourey(sp) Taylor. Said tire prices should be coming down. Rubber at it peak was $1.48 and currently $.56 a # (those figures from memory so don't quote me) He stated a tire that was selling for $50.000 should be $40.000 some time in the future. In the pic he was standing in front of a tire that looked to be about 12' to 14' tall. I think rim size was 63".

Bobby, I got sticker shock last summer too. I bought a pair of the newfangled size 18.4x38 radial were about $976 each. By the time I paid mileage, tube, and tax add on another $100 each. No fluid involved. Now I have a $4000 tractor with $2000 of new rubber on it.

Walnut Grove MN USA | some of the old Gleaner combines had that tire size, probably others as well. Thats gonna mean a trip to the salvage yard.

We ahve the same size on an old 1800 Massey. Had to replace 2 in the last 2 years and had NO luck finding used. As said, some of the Gleaners used them but a decent used are few and far between. We bought new Firestone for around 800 apiece but that was before they got stupid priced. INDY

North Central Iowa | Seems like all of the 34" tires are getting about impossible to get. I need 8 20.8-34's but have only found one place that had any used ones and they weren't enough better than what I've got to go to the effort to swap them. I have been watching for another tractor that used this size, but haven't found any sets that were in decent shape. I've talked to a lot of the big tire dealers in the midwest and they all told me that I'm not going to find anything used unless I just stumble across them and then I'll have to get lucky and be the first guy to stumble across them. I don't suppose you could switch sizes and rims and be any money ahead? I looked into changing to 30.5-32 singles instead of the dualled 20.8-34's but by the time I bought the tires and rims, it wasn't going to be cheaper than 8 new 20.8's. The worst part is, none of the dealers I talked to could give me a time frame on actually coming up with 8 of the same tire in my size. Good Luck, Mike

Northeast Indiana (Auburn) | I have that size on my L2 Gleaner. I have been looking for two 30.5-32 and rims for the L2. My tires have about 90% tread, everything used I have found are 25% or less tread.

ND | We bought 4 new michelins 23.1 x 34 about 5 years ago for a steiger. 70 hours later it blew up so we pulled the tires back off and sold the rest for scrap. The tires still had most the nubs. Advertised them all over but nobody wanted a set of 4. We finally gave them away last summer for I think 3 grand.

Nusbaum Farms LLC Bellfountain, OR | Too bad I didn't know about them. I tried to get Michelins in '05 but there weren't 8 in all of North America, so I had to settle for Firestones. Total bill didn't miss $11,000 by much. Glad we did it then rather than now. -Orin

Nusbaum Farms LLC Bellfountain, OR | George, I hate to say it, but you might be better off making a switch to 24.5-32's. If you could find some rims off a burnt or otherwise scrapped machine, it might be more economical in the long run. Plus you have much more selection of tires then, and I believe you can go to metric sizes on those rims. Just a thought. I might have done it on ours in '05, but we already had Tiger style rims and all I could locate was the tie-rod style in '32's. -Orin
