Subject: CVT Transmission Oil in Challenger, Massey, or Fendt

Sibley County, MN
Has anyone changed out the CVT transmission fluid in your FENDT CVT transmission used in Challenger 600 series, Massey or Fendt? My 600 Series Challenger is at 2500 hrs. Maintenance schedule calls for a transmission oil change at 2000 hrs. Oil must meet these specs: "SAE 15W40 oil complying with MF specifications CMS M1145" Having a hard time finding an oil that meets these specs other than the OEM Agco 821XL Plus, and Cenex STOU fluid. Are there any others out there? I think $22 per gallon for the AGCO 821XL Plus is kind of steep, but will pay it if I need to.

What’s wrong with just using the 821XL? I didn’t think it was bad priced, roughly $70 for 5 gallons if I remember right. Just bought a bunch to change trans fluid in my tractor. And I just got a flyer in the mail from Ziegler about 15% off all AGCO fluids and filters so would be even less (unless they already had that built in when I bought mine). At 2,000 hours between changes, not sure I’d spend much time searching for an oil to save a couple bucks. But that’s just me.

When enrolling a couple of these tractors in Cenex’s warranty plan I asked them which of their products met the specs of the transmissions. They said QWIKLIFT hydraulic oil does. So far so good but only 7,500 hours between the two tractors

Have you checked your Kubota dealer?

I looked into this a couple of years ago and found the Kubota oil was compatible for my JD/AGCO/CNH tractors.
I found it to be cheaper also.
You get a true 20L pail for less than a 18.9L pail from JD, NH, or AGCO.

I was told the same. I'm pretty sure it is just hydraulic fluid. Then the book says change every 1000 hrs. They must use some kind of full synthetic fluid at the factory.

I would stay with the plus oil. It can go to 2000 hours between changes where everything else only has a 1000 hour interval. AGCO wants the plus used for all services covered under warranty.

My manual says 1000 hours when using the 821XL. Nobody seems to know what or where to get what they came with.

You can use hydraulic fluid but does need the additives for wet brakes(which UTF/THF will have). 15w40 is a little heavier than some UTFs but many have ran others without issues.

They come from the factory with 821+allegedly. Double service life VS other stuff.

not a cvt tractor, but we switched from Permatran to Shell S4 TXM - noticed hydraulics work better on colder days.

The permatran plus is 15w40 and the peratran XL is 10w30. The 15w40 has a 2000 hr interval and the 10w30 has a 1000hr interval. The CVT came with the plus version (15w40).You can use both in a pinch but I would stick with the plus on CVT. I would not use cheaper brands, but that is me, what you save ain't crap to a CVT replacement. For $16.75/gal I would just run what is supposed to be in it. For as long as it's in there, that extra savings don't add up to squat. They built it and this is their oil.
By the way, most dealers don't even know this or have the list..... Life is pretty easy when you have all the answers....... They should just let me have a dealership, think I could do better than some of them that are running around.
