Deere sells most. They pretty much dominate the market.

How do they work... YouTube will be your best answer. As it’s a thousand things in a cotton picker.

Well,,, as of 18 Deere is the only one making them, as least in the USA and probably the world. (I have heard rumors the China reverse engineered the JD).

As to how they work. Best to google some pics and some older owners manuals. But here is an attempt. Spindles (barbed spikes) spin and wrap up the seed cotton. The cotton is removed by a rotating lugged disk (doffer) that is spinning faster than the spindle so, it basically unwraps the cotton. After that, it’s sucked up and put in a round baler.

Maybe for time being. But Case IH has been their competitor. We have owned several cotton pickers over the years. Green and red.

Supposed to be. But still some left in pipeline to my understanding. The module system that case ih have sucks. Nobody wants that.

The deere round bale system is the way to go.

Hey Stout!!! It's CaseIH!!!! Ya know, the FIRST company to successfully build and market the mechanical cotton harvester??? I will agree with the other posters that the CaseIH module system is a joke. I bleed red, most here know that. But that system (1/2 modules) was a good idea!!!!!!!!! Poor execution. Kinda like the 2+2.

You can still buy 6 row basket picker. Do not know if old stock or not. Local case dealer just sold one a tier 3 for 2019 delivery. A basket picker not module maker.

usrjcro11,

I’m assuming the people running basket pickers are using them with a module builder?

Is there anyone still hauling loose cotton in wagons or has that completely gone away? (I don’t know the proper name for this system.)

I don’t know much about cotton but have tried learning as I read on here.

Round balers aren't perfect. Wrap doesn't wrap correctly. Some bust. So yes there's a few trailers still running the roads.

Do not know anybody using wagons. Most gins retrofitted to module feeders using wagon suck pipes. Now they cannot gin trailers.

Yes besides Allis Chalmers, CaseIH and John Deere other companies made cotton harvesters.
Here are a few companies that sold cotton harvesters, most were tractor mounted or pull types and a few were self propelled.

Ben Pearson

Yes, it's a relatively small market compared to combines. FYI, the Deere Baler picker list price is just a bit under $1million.

Blue and pink. At least they've reached for some originality in new color schemes.

http://www.sangbe.com/article/301801.html

"... As we all know, the domestically produced cotton picker has no disruptive breakthrough in technology. At this stage, it is still learning and imitating. The real subversion technology does not appear, and it is hard to rewrite the competition pattern of the industry. The only way to compete with foreign brands like Deere is low prices. Low-cost sales in the new machine is indeed able to form the Case, Deere impact, such as the Deer CP690 market price of 5.5 million yuan, 3-line machine made in China 1 million. As for how to choose the user to buy, look at the capital situation. ..."

Our area is dominated by Deere pickers. I think the case units I see are just sitting in the middle of the field because they caught on fire. Lol

The local gin stays pretty busy this time of year.

Oliver and Minnie Mo did offer cotton strippers, no pickers. Oliver models were either pull type or tractor mounts. MM were tractor mounted.
The Ford stripper was made by Oliver , just in red and white Ford livery.
CMC bought out Ben Pearson . I've only seen a stripper not sure if a picker was available.
