East Central Kansas | Does anyone have experience with these booms? We are considering purchasing a JD 4038 sprayer with 120' boom, trying to decide between steel and carbon fiber booms. Thanks

Clark, SD | Steel is pretty easy to weld back together, carbon fiber not so much. What I've learned with spray booms is that they will crack.

Holland, Indiana (SW IN) | Don't know anything about a Deere composite boom --to me they look great FWIW Have a 2011 Hagie with a 120' aluminum boom I cannot believe how much that POS has broken --thinking about getting an aluminum welder just for repair hope if you buy composite boom you can find a way to repair --or cross your fingers and it never has issues good luck in what you decide Dan To add I bet the steel version will be heavy--not alot if easy answers --at long lengths Edited by Dan Loehr 11/10/2018 12:35

Carbon fiber repair kit for the CF as well. Patch piece, epoxy, and rivets. Local operator destroys boom every year on leased sprayer. Usually 20-30K to make right at end of lease. And he pays for it, so he knows. This year, repaired booms on CF machine, took 3 days (mostly the glue drying) and only about 3K or so. Just a thought.

WC Iowa | Got to demo a machine with carbon fiber booms for a few hours. The booms didnt seem as stable as the steel ones I have. Also the boom plumbing and nozzle bodies are left unprotected vs the steel truss style.

Southern MO | We demoed the carbon fiber and decided to stay with our previous steel boom. Negatives 1. The carbon fiber boom is too flexible. The ends move up and down too much as the sprayer travels through the field. 2. It takes quite a bit longer to fold and unfold. It is too high as it folds, we think it would get in the power lines. 3. Expensive 4. Duabilty?? Our 120ft steel booms have not had a single crack in 1500+ hrs. 5. The nozzles are not protected as well. Positives Lower weight.

North west MN | Seems like the farmers around here that buy deere sprayers end up putting 132 foot aluminum booms on them.

Carbon fiber is nice but they are floppy if you go fast.
