What is the good bad and ugly of these, MFD and loader. Not many details yet on one that might be for sale.

Never been around an 8240 for own two 7840's and a 6640 and they are bullet proof. By far easily the best tractors I've ever owned and they have a ton of hours on them.

Years ago when I worked for a NH dealer the 8240's were pretty good rigs. Never sold many parts for them other than the occasional A/C parts and small electrical issues. As far as the mechanical side of them I think they're pretty bulletproof like was said above.

We have an 8240 sle, mfwd. Was a loader tractor for first 12000 hrs of its life.
Starts good, easy to operate/and get around, but ours is about worn out, leaks every fluid.

Worst part is the mechanical fwd/reverse handle. If its been a loader tractor its whole life, that handle has moved countless times. We have to play with ours to get it in place.

When you look at it, make sure that handle (and the others) go in place easily.
If ours didn't leak and the shifting was good, it would be a good tractor. If those are not issues on the one you look at, I would have nothing bad to say about it.
