Southern Missouri | Considering selling a fairly good size amount of farm related machinery and I know these two have been discussed on here at length, just wondering what latest opinions of each company are running?I like auction time the best I think but stuff seems hard to find on their website to me. |
South Central Illinois | Kinda depends on the equipment.
Some is best sold at a consignment sale.
Much easier to establish a minimum price.
Big Iron does not allow anything except absolute sales. |
sw corner ia. | do either one charge a stupid buyers tax? |
Ne Nebraska | No buyers fees on either. Big iron commission is a little higher and is absolute auction, no minimum. I think auction time has way to put minimum but not sure. I think BigIron is better known and advertised tho. I’ve bought off both and both easy to work with. Only sold on big iron and that process was pretty easy as well. Some items will go more than you think and some less.

near dyersville iowa | it looks as if you can elect to have a buyers fee on auctiontime. Some ads are advertising they dont have one anyway. |
Galena IL | I have a dealer use auction time for me. Works good. I sold a $140,000 planter on auction time and he charged me $750. big iron wanted ten % and a listing fee.... Dennis |

| Why not list the items on Ag Talk Classifieds or do you want someone else to "deal" with the people and worry about collecting the money for you ? |
Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska | No buyers fee on BigIron |
| I use this site to sell things too.Works good.I like big iron for the user friendliness. If you never have been on there. It only takes you about ten minutes to figure it out.Talked to the big iron rep one day an asked how many hits they get
About 40000 on sale day
Both sites are fine.though.Nice way to sell equipment.Kind like a Ford Chevy debate.Pick your preference. One thing don't botherr people for a few hours on Wed It's auction day.LOL.

| Big iron is now sticking everybody with a lien search fee on top of the already to high commission. |
South Central NE | I have never been charged a listing fee. Also commission is negotiable on bigiron. I will say things seem to sell better in Nebraska and Kansas than neighboring states. |
jackson county WI | I use big iron. As a buyer I prefer knowing it is a absolute sale. I have sold there also. Everything worked well. Couple items I sold I thought could have brought more, but it was a absolute sale and I was happy it was gone and I didn't have to deal with a bunch of tire kickers wasting my time. |

SW MN | From my own experience Auction Time is the Shadiest of the Two. Big Iron does not allow bid in's, or so they say.. |
South Central Illinois | Yes
And it is gut wrenching to wait till the last minute for the bidding to start.
Then you resort to telling a caller;
Just bid on it , if you are unhappy with it I will buy it back from you.
As always, the real bidders do not inquire about the item before the sale.

East Central, Nebraska | i have bought and sold on both. big irons fees are absolutely insane. with auctiontime your dealing with basically a local auctioneer and auctiontime is the online platform they use to sell your equipment. auctiontime as a company has little to do with what actually is being sold. if you have a problem you take it up with who you sell it through. i sold and bought on both. i bigiron charged 11% and auctiontime 4%. you can say that you like that bigiron is an absolute sale but i don't. i have gotten to the point that i dont even watch bigiron anymore. |

Western Iowa | They have a listing fee if you want it in the mail literature. They also have a fee if you want your name on the front page of the auction listing for your auction week. Maybe those are the same fee, I don't remember, but it is steep, like $250. |
sw corner ia. | I did not know that. |

Salina, Kansas | My problem with auctiontime is that seems almost impossible to just browse unless I am missing something in the menus. You seem to have to have a specific thing you are looking for like truck or planter and then go to those pages. There seems to be no page for all items so you can browse. I miss most things for sale on auctiontime because I don't even know they are there. Also I will agree that auctiontimes percieved dealer use for price discovery and not really selling bothers me too. I have never bought anything there because it just seems hard to use but I have talked to others that love it.
I have bought some bigiron items and like to be able to quickly browse everything that is for sale but havn't sold anything yet so don't know the fee schedule. |

NW Ohio | use the top tabs "Construction, Farm, Trucks, etc" to narrow down the category, then use the "auction dates" tab to select the upcoming auction. Then you can browse all that are coming up within the category. I have yet to figure out a way to combine two large categories, ie.. Farm & Trucks.

NC Kansas | I think big iron's commissions are a little high... that being said, I don't know that I've ever seen too many bargain's on big iron. I know that's my opinion, but seems like I can never get anything bought on there for what I'm willing to give. So maybe they earn that commission. |

Sw. Ill | Auctiontime listings come up on google searches. I dont think ive ever been directed to big iron from an internet search. As a buyer i prefer auctiontime. Big iron auctions are hard to keep track of for me, there can be several items going off at the same time, on different pages.
Auctiontime its all up top easy to see what is selling. |
| That’s optional though, you don’t have to buy that |

Your last sentence sums up my experience. If your selling common things that aren’t a hard sell, like for instance a 2 year old John Deere baler it might not be worth it. Online auctions shine when your selling something that isn’t common for your area, or something that not every Tom dick and Harry are going to want. I sold a manure spreader that I couldn’t have given away in my neighborhood, it brought $1800 and went 500 miles away. I sold a small mixer wagon that the closest I got to selling was about $3000, it brought over $5,000 on Bigiron. My last round of stuff I sold the highest dollar item was $2200, I had bids come in from CO, S.D., NE, KS, IA, MO, MI, KY. I would have had to work my rear off to advertise my stuff that wide. Plus all I have to do is tell people about it. I don’t have to do any haggling and I know the check will clear. |

Salina, Kansas | Yes, that's what I want, to be able to see everything. Yes you can there are too many categories to step thru them all efficiently so it usually doesnt get done. I usually just avoid auction time because of that but I am sure I missed something because of that |
Roseglen, North Dakota | There's nothing such thing as an absolute sale. We all know that |
Fairbury, NE (Southeast) | My experience is do your homework. Buy on Auctiontime...sell on Bigiron. Rarely are there bargains on Big Iron. I would certainly negotiate commission on items worth over 10k. Should be able to step down commission substantially. If not, walk. |
