How difficult is it to add an upper beater to a new Holland 185 spreader? Would think that there is enough if them out there that a guy could find a scrap one for parts that still has a good upper beater on it and just swap it out. Hate to think what new Holland would ask for the whole assembly new

2 brackets
2bearings
2 sprockets

Not much of a challenge to do.... However finding a used one that isn't weakened with rust/ manure acid or whatever will be. They don't last and sitting out in the weather just kills them. Best to just bend over and take it on a new one. Yes they are crazy expensive.

We added one to ours 2 yrs ago. Complete kit was spendy, we bought just the beater (~$300) then made brackets. Got bearings at local bearing house. Total we had $500-550 into it.

I bought a new 185 with upper beater about 6 years ago....the upper beater drive is the cheapest made thing I've seen in my life...the chain and sprockets were a joke.....after a couple years of swearing, I bought 60 heavy sprockets , and made a chain idler on one side and tightner on other side......i'm a happy camper now...….haven't looked at a n.h. spreader lately , maybe they changed it up on there new ones , if not, save the time and money and do what I did.....
