East central Iowa | Had a JD 2955 for five years a/c has quit 4 out of 5 annually. Anyway, was making hay and last 2hrs. a/c wasn't keeping cool so cranked thermostat father than normal still not keeping up. Figured I had condenser plugging or radiator. (Temp was 95 degrees). or filters from dust and dirt. So I cleaned everything and replaced the thermostat in cab because it always seemed touchy. Well that didn't help still barely cools at all. So can I add some Freon to it? how much? The last trip to JD was 18 months ago had A/C compressor replaced, charged and cooled great, until now. The mechanic seems to do good work just want to get past 3rd cutting hay. 2 or 3 days running. Thanks Dave

Pilot Grove, Missouri | Find someone local with a set of gauges that knows what they are doing. Have them look at it and see if it is low on refrigerant or if soemthing else is wrong. Adding freon when there are other problems will only make things worse and possibly wreck the compressor. Patrick

sounds to me you have a small refrigerant leak somewhere. they can be hard to find without proper tools. you could try some soapy water on all the fittings, see if any bubble

Hinds County, MS | Had a 2950 for years. Had A/C problems for 95% of the time i owned it. JD worked on it a number of times. Local shadetrees a number of times. I watched them do it so much, I got pretty proficient in A/C work. From what I could tell, the old compressors (A-6, i think they call them), were designed for use with R12. Now they are being sold as 134 ready, as direct replacements. They cannot hold up to the higher pressures of the 134 systems and are the first component to fail. I finally replaced all the JD crap with a retrofit kit from apair.com, that utilizes a compressor/drier/exp valve/etc that are designed for use with 134 refrigerant. Once i installed all that, the a/c blew ice cold, then I sold the tractor so I don't know what happened afterwards. Was very happy to see that tractor leave for no other reason than the A/C issues I went through.
