Faunsdale, AL | Will all 531 engines bolt up to the clutch housing and frame rails? I am considering putting an engine out of a 6030 in my 1967 5020. I could even swap the frame rails and front end etc. The 5020 block is ventilated and the 6030 engine would seem to have good potential for a rebuild if it would swap

Pierce county WI | Now this is just me, so don't take this the wrong way......... Forget the 5020, and just keep the 6030, as opposed to robbing parts from it. 6030 is a more valuable tractor. What about a motor out of an 8630?

the 619 from an 8630 was not one of mother deeres' greatest engineering achievments-- head gasgets stemming from the 5 1/8 bore making the head gasget very thin between the cylinder bores--I'm not realy up to date on how well this has been addressed in the later parts offering---ask questions !!!

SE MN | I pretty sure there was a 5020 for sale on here not long ago with a 619 in it. I don't think there is much difference on the outside of the block for mounting the engines from the 531 to the 619 to the 10.1L, but I could be wrong. I agree with WITitan...spend the money on the 6030 or find a good 619 for the 5020. If you have a parted out 6030, I think your engine would be worth the most to a 6030 owner looking for one. You can pick your 4wd model from the 8630, 40 50 or 8760/8770 with the newer 10.1l. Probably not a lot of the original 8630 engines still around in running condition I would guess because a lot were updated to newer engines when they went down. Some older self propelled choppers also had the 531 or 619 engines, like a 5400 or 5460. Good luck and keep us posted on the project if you go ahead with it.

ecmn | if memory serves the 619 will bolt to the clutch housing and so should the 955 V 8 !! but I believe the 619 is longer by about 3-4 inches. if it is then all hydraulic lines going to the front and the hood would have to get lengthened. 619 in a 2wd frame could crank out major hp!!

Northeastern Pa. | The swap is done a lot in pullers. There is a 5020 for sale on Pull-off.com right now with a 619. You could call and talk to the guy.

Western Ky. | I have no idea what it would entail to install, but a guy not too far from me has has a 6030 with a 92 series Detroit Diesel in it. I am not sure if it is a six or eight cylinder, but it has twin turbos feeding the superchargers. It is one BAD machine. He farms with it.

Faunsdale, AL | Thanks for the help! I guessed the 531-619 would bolt up to the clutch housing but wasn't so confident about the frame rail bolting. I know some of the 404 and 466 engines have some differences there when you try to swap combine engines into tractors etc. Also seems to be some difference in water pump mounting height etc My ambition is to get back to a reliable farm tractor with 5020 capabilities without spending to much money on it. I have a 6030 already and I need a 5020-4640 size tractor for my lineup. The spare 6030 engine is one that locked up or started knocking (can't remember which) and we had a good one in a tractor out back in the weeds, so we swapped it out. I haven't opened it up to see what it has going on inside. It might not be economically viable to overhaul. The 6030 it would have gone in has been scavenged too severely to consider putting it back together. I think it had transmission trouble to start with. We had three 6030's and two running over the years so it gets confusing what with swapping engines, finals etc.

Fruita CO | The part# for the frame rails is the same between the few 6030's that had the 531D (5020) engine & the ones with the 531A. says to me it will bolt in...Do it! Don't forget to post pics... Also the mount brackets are the same-do it! :) Edited by ronm 6/12/2018 07:50

north central nebraska | i have put 619's in 2 6030's and 1 5020 . the 6030 engines will bolt right in a 5020. the 619 will bolt right in but the 619 's have a water line fitting on the back of the block that has to have some grinding done on the 5020 or the 6030 above the clutch housing to clear it . it's easy to do . also the 6030 water pump must be used because the 619 water pump is to long. good luck whichever way you go.

Central-ish KY | Put a 619 in a 5020. Not a bad job but I do remember I had to modify the coupler for the hydraulic pump. I don't remember if I did it because I couldn't find the right part or because I cheaped out. It's a pulling tractor so I wasn't worried about 1000s of hours of use.

Ne Nebraska | We currently have a 5020,2-6030,760 scraper with 619 motors we put in. The 5020 front end mount needs to be ground down to clear the balancer,or use the 6030 front pivot mount, air cleaner piping also will need to be changed.
