West Central Ohio | We are considering trading combines. Wanting to stay with a 7130 due staying out of flagship series. Was curious if a 7130 can run a 40 ft Draper. This will also be 30” soybeans vs 7.5” with a lot more material. Mainly want to stay with smaller machine for corn with 8 row head for cleaning quality. Have some nieghbors that have bigger machines and smaller heads and see a lot of corn laying around afterwards. What is guys thoughts on 7130 and 40ft Draper? And also won’t be setting any speed records. Thanks in advance.

n.c.iowa | A couple guys here run 40ft diapers on 7120’s. My concern would the weight of the thing, they are heavy.

NE ND | What is your reasoning from staying out of the flagship series? Just curious. We added a 3rd combine last summer and was going to go with a 2588 to stay in the legacy series but ended up with another flagship and couldn’t be happier.

West Central Ohio | Mainly cleaning quality. We have many neighbors with flagship machines and run 8 row heads on them and if they don’t run fast to keep the machine full they throw a lot out the back. And we can’t run fast due to not being able to dump quick enough

I think you would be happier with a 35' draper, especially in green stemmed or high yielding beans. We've run a 40' on a 7010, 7120, & currently a 7230 and have considered going to a 35'. Most guys around herebwho are running 40' drapers are running thenmon chipped class 8 machines.

Your neighbors need to learn how to set their machines, we run an 8 row on our 8010 and have no issues getting it set to run almost nothing out the back.

Ontario | Neighbour had flagship custom harvest his corn. His bean field is green with lost corn. It looks more like header loss. Are Case headers that brutal or was it operator error?

Could be the stripper plates weren't adjusted properly but the 3000 series heads were bad about header shellage, especially if corn was 18% or below. They improved that aspect somewhat on the 4000 series but they don't do the job that a Gerringhof or Drago does. Or it could be the corn variety itself.

Flora IL | I say go flagship. Love ours and I came from legacy. 35 would be max if your on a 7130.

Cliff, I was thinking the same thing but you beat me to it. have run 8 row heads on flagship machines with no cleaning problems, though there is a learning curve in knowing how to adjust them properly.

NWIL | 7130 will handle 40’ fine. I’ve cut a thousands acres that way and would want nothing else. A 7130 will outdo a 7230, kinda falls in between a 7230 and 8230. Remember, you will never make up for width with speed on the same machine. I’d rather cut 40’ at 3.5mph all day long over 35’ at 4.5.

West Central Ohio | That’s what I wanted to hear. I don’t want to run fast just want to cover acres reasonably. Don’t want to run a 40ft at 1 mph but don’t need to run 5-6 mph either. I emailed you.

NWIL | I beg to differ. Big time. 35 on a class six I suppose.

North Liberty and South Bend, Indiana | You really have to mind your fan speed with these big machines. I assume the reds are like the yellows, its pretty important to use the ACS to drop the fan speed at headlands and use the dual setting switch when hitting low yielding spots. These behemoth machines run with hurricane amounts of air for 5000 bph capacity so when in low bph areas they will blow it out the back. Operator is key!!

Brookston, IN | We have a 7130 and run a 35ft MacDon. We put a Steinbauer on after only being able to 2.7 mpg while unloading on the go in beans. There is no way I would want a 40 footer on it.

Monroe City, MO | We run the same setup as Cliff. It is very east to see right now who sets a combine and who can't. The neighbor has a NH and his volunteer corn is so bad if it was mine I'd be making a spray pass right now instead of waiting until time to post the beans. We have almost no volunteer corn in our beans. I don't buy the keeping combine full theory. I've shelled 20 bushel corn before and didn't run corn out the back. Just take time to set it.

There are so many variables in cleaning corn in flagships like rasp bars, sieves, concaves, vanes, and air speed that if you see a kernel of corn on the ground take it to a dealer and have them set it up. When I bought my 8010 the dealer sent it ready to go and I don't think I could screw it up if I tried. And I'll compare my sample to anyone's. At first I struggled with a few electrical gremlins but once that was over I'm glad I got it instead of the higher priced 2588.

Flora IL | Thanks for saying I'm right. 7130 is a 6130 with a little more hp.
