Iowa | I may go look at a NHL785 skid loader. What should I look for in these used machines? Which is best, a Perkins or a Ford engine? Do they come with different kinds of quick attach? Thanks!

mn | I've had one for about 18 years. Bought it with 2000 hrs and has 4300 on it now. I have the Ford motor, and it's still running great! The only trouble I've had, has been wheel seals. Some of it was getting twine strings wrapped on the inside of the tires while cleaning cattle yards. Since the cattle left, that eliminated most of that problem! The 2 speed is nice! I have the cab door and heater also. Really nothing special to look for other than oil leaks, any possible welds on the boom, (which I have none, and have dug some big holes digging out rocks bigger than it can carry) cosmetics and general appearance! If I found a low houred one, I'd buy it just to have! |

SE Michigan | Some of those did NOT have aux hydraulics. So do your research before you get serious. Example... have a L465 witch did NOT have aux hyd, but the LX465 does. Just a thought, cannot comment on the engine, but my L465 has a shinibu (sp????) engine witch never gave me any problems. Not sure what the 785's used |

mn | I have auxiliary hydraulics on mine. I think it's standard on those. It's a low flow hyd system so you have to make sure you match the right attachments..ie brush cutter ect. |

Lincoln County. NC | I prefer the Ford engine, but not everyone will agree. The quick coupler will be non-standard unless it has been converted or is a very late L785. |

Northern CA | Both of mine had quick attach. One was a European style though. One had a Ford and on Perkins. I thought I would like the Perkins better, but st 6500 hours, which was 2000 hours after a rebuild, the block ventilated. I guess I like the Ford better. One has aux hydraulic and one did not. Overall, they are good machines for their age. |

Fancy prairie, Illinois | We had an l783 for about 10 years before we went to an ls 190. It had the Perkins engine which ran good but was always cold blooded, hard starting. They are great with pallet forks, used ours more as a forklift than anything else. I really think the controls were better on the l783 than the ls190 it seemed like you could pick up a soda can on the end of a fork without dropping it, just a smooth machine to run. |
