If you had to haul silage 30 miles what would be the best trailer to do it with? Also would like a trailer to haul from chopper to pile and also go to ethanol plant and get distillers.

Probably a walking floor trailer.

The Meyers box will do it all and you don't have to worry about rolling it over if part of the load sticks in an upper corner.

All of the silage haulers I see in my area are belt floor trailers. Probably see at least 200+ trucks at harvest time plus the 20+ trucks that daily haul to dairies are all belt floor. Bottom line is most everyone that makes a business of hauling silage uses belt floor trailers.

A belt trailer is the best for what you want to do but I would stay away from a Trail King.

Some bigger guys around here are starting to get into these as hauls get longer.

Really happy with the manufacturer, locally made and really well designed. We have one of their "economy" spreaders, really like it.

We use Meyer boxes like this for hauling from the field but all short hauls. They work great for that but would never use it for distillers. For a 30 mile haul I would get a belt trailer, much lighter and the rear axles would scale way better.

How much silage are you talking? How much distillers you talking?

1000 tons of silage out of our pile and distillers up to probably 10 to 15 loads a year.

I do everything that ypu are talking about. I haul about 8000 tons from field to pile. I haul all winter out of a pile to feedlots. I also haul 2 or 3 loads a week of WDG. I use aulick belt trailers. For every think I do this is the best trailer I have found.

Chain floor trailers are great for hauling silage out of the field. Most are between 34ft and 40ft. Turn short and can haul alot of material. Hard to bridge the weight when going down the road. Have tried to haul WDG with this trail. It is a mess. Leaks out around chain front and back.

I also have a 32 ft hitchcock end dump. It is a great trailer I really like it unloads fast, easy to get around fields and tight spots. Can haul WDG with it. If it is really wet it pushes out of the grain gates in the back. It is an end dump and they do lay over.

Some guys are using side dumps for both silage and distillers....I have no idea of the results. Prob perfectly fine in the summer/fall. Not sure how wet distillers will work in our winters. They built an bolt on extension for silage. Looks pretty slick. I'm assuming they can get enough on weight wise to make it efficient.
