Subject: JD 8650 hydraulic issue

Pataskala Oh
Went to go chisel plow today, started out normal and then noticed that the tractor was hardly picking up the plow after a few rounds.. made it to the other end to see what it was as I wasn’t loosing fluid or steering. It’ll raise the plow just a few inches and then nothing. Fluid is good, and was just serviced.. I didn’t run it much during the fall to notice anything then as i had other guys running it...
any ideas on what it could be? What to check??

Good time to change clutch and transmission filters.
Was that included in the recent service work?

Always a good thing to change filters if they haven't been.
Take a look at your tips its possible they need replacing.
Also another thing to try would be switching it to another SCV and see if the problem follows to another valve.
Does this implement have wings? Do they lift if it does.
How many cylinders are on the depth control
Possible that you may have a bad cylinder and its bypassing all the flow.
Hydraulics will follow the path of least resistance
Next step after that would be installing a pressure guage and check pressure.

Perpetual issue with the John Deere couplers
They pop out far enough to slow the oil flow.
Some times they will lift part way.

Put a new pioneer end on one of the hoses for the plow, no change. But i booked the plow to another tractor and it raised and lowered it just fine, so the problem has to be the tractor...
changed the two hydraulic filters it calls for, one up frond in front of the axle, the other in the middle where it articulates.. I messed with the adjustment on one of the outlets and it helped some but still isn’t anywhere near right.. and I believe i adjusted it as much as possible without causing another problem

Do the brakes and steering work correctly?
There is a suction line behind the transmission filter.
There is a screen inside it that could need cleaned.

Put a 4000 or 5000 psi gauge on a pioneer end. Then when you think you have issues, plug in the port, have someone stroke the lever, and look for 2500-3000 psi in one direction or the other. Narrows down a lot of problems. If you don't have that kind of pressure, report back, and I'll get some other things for you to check.

My 8650 transmission pressure light came on then lost all hydraulics and hydraulic reservoir is now way over full. changed filters and the sump screen. Have not changed the oil transfer suction screen. Is this the one up by the trans filter?
