Buy a propane tank weed burner torch Use this as supplemental heat on the back of the piece your heating. With your rosebud This throws a lot of btus of heat. Although the temp isnt as high it great ly asists your rosebud when using both together. Your rose bud is then not having to heat the whole piece just take whats already heated to the last 3 or 400 degrees to get it red. Edited by ac45 3/11/2018 11:24

NW Washington | Be careful. A big rose bud can suck too much acetylene and cause problems. If you use the rose bud torch a lot a switch to a propane or MAP torch would be a good idea.

Kingdom of Callaway - Fulton, Mo 65251 | Our local welding shop sells three different sizes. I have seen railroad workers with one that has a tip the size of my wrist. It had some large hoses feeding it! Edited by olivetroad 3/11/2018 12:17

Dawn Mo 64638 | Make a loose brick forge and use your rosebud as a burner I heated a 2"x 8" prong on my thumb on the track hoe that was bent to a 45 minute start to finish

west Nebraska northeast Colorado | My understanding is that you can only withdraw a certain volume of acetylene/min from any given size of acetylene tank or that the acetylene becomes unstable and there is a risk of explosion. Thus, the maximum size of rosebud tip depends on the size of your acetylene tank.

They make different sizes but as others have said be aware of acetylene use rates. Another option is to use lp or mapp gas as a heat source for prolonged high heat applications

Minier, Illinois | Just bought a new torch at work and I had this very discussion with the salesman. The set I got comes with a size 6 rose bud and he said that the AC4 bottle that we use wasn't big enough to use the size 6 continuously. They said the AC4 bottle would only run a size 8 tip for a couple minutes before it was starving gas.

North Central Kansas | I was told that running too large of a rosebud on acetylene will cause acetone to be drawn out of the cylinder into the hose which will deteriorate them from the inside.

scmn | For acetylene the limit is 1/7 the capacity of the tank per hour.
