Subject: JD 8235r engine fan

I have a 2012 8235r, interim tier 4, 9L engine. I read about guys having problems with the fan set-up and rebuilding or lubricating the fan drive. I am going to start getting ready for spring and while I have it in the shop was going to look at the fan. I can't find anything in the book about lubricating the drive, do I not have on this tractor what the later final tier 4 engines have? What exactly should I be looking for? Tia

When we do it on a 13.5 we have to release pressure on fan drive(valve on back left side of cab). Remove plug right in center of pulley. And use two bolts to threaded into shives to spread apart. It takes a special grease zero to thread into plug that is removes smaller threads inside cavity where plug is removed. Fill with corn head grease. I have a print out I can upload if is the same. If you have a dealer close I would talk to them. There is a spec on belt wear as well.

13.5 is different. I'm guesssing yours is a 9R as our 9030 is different than you describe.

They have changed and have vents and grease fittings you can leave in most of them now so don’t have to remove plugs and crap. Also using the synthetic grease. Could call your dealer should give you info on updating it.

The local dealer told me only synthetic grease now. Even gave a procedure for purging the cornhead grease out

I got that kit for a 13.5 and didn't have a socket small enough to fit in there to put the zerks in where the plugs are now, not sure how that's supposed to work so I just put it back together. Had to put a new one on and that came with vents and the zerks in it.

We have a late model 8000 with 9.1 litre and 9000 with 13.5 litre motor and the fan drives last less than 500 hrs and start leaking oil , they have been greased every 200 hrs. John Deere should have a pip on these fan drives as they cost about $2000 every time.

Thank you for all the responses. I am going to run to the dealer and see if they have any info from Deere they can print out for me. Is there a kit of some kind through parts that has the zerk and vent? Also, are you guys using grease from Deere or getting it somewhere else?

Zerks are 58M5575. At least that's what the bag I have from Deere has written on it, the vent is E14814. Using Deere TY25744 synthetic grease now.

Hey Kevin,

I just got a service document with P/N's and installation instructions (from Deere) emailed to me from my parts guy for this issue. I can email it to you if you are interested.
