The Arcan/Central Hydraulic 50 ton press from Harbor freight is $900 shipped. The cheapest Made in the USA is at least double that. How has the Arcan one been for anyone who owns it? Also like that it comes with the air option as well. The reviews for what they are worth on HF websites give it about 4.25 out of 5 stars. Just looking for the occasional farm use.

We have had one almost 10 years and no issues yet. It is handy to have when needed. Ours is the air over hydraulic and works great.

I have no idea how well it is made but you can use a 20 percent off coupon to take another 160 off the price.

Chebanse, IL.....

Well, the price is certainly right, especially w/the 20% coupon (assuming it's usable for the press). But, I have questions for those of you that have/use the HF press, this is the 50T press from HF:

This is the owners manual for that press (which is a pretty neat thing HF does for most of it's tools!):

owever, they say to bolt the press to the floor. Does everyone do that?

Also, they say to operate both the hydraulic pump handle & the air supply simultaneously, I believe. Is that the way they operate? Presses I've seen just use the air supply on the air/hydraulic jack to operate the ram. Maybe I don't understand what they're saying. Here is from their OM:

8. To lower the Pressure Head Assembly (1B through 22B) to make contact with the workpiece that is to be pressed, insert the Jack Handle (19C) into either the Fast Pump Core or Slow Pump Core. Then, step as far away from the workpiece as possible, squeeze the Handle on the Air Valve (40A), and slowly pump the Jack Handle up and down. (See Figures A & C)
9. Visually check the Pressure Gauge (17A), so as not to exceed the manufacturer’s recommended pressing capacity on the workpiece for which you are pressing. (See Figure A) 10. Continue squeezing the Air Valve (40A) and pumping the Jack Handle (19C) up and down until the pressing procedure is completed. Then release pressure on the Air Valve, pull the Jack Handle all the way up, and remove the Jack Handle from the Fast or Slow Pump Core (16C, 21C). (See Figure C.)

Sometimes they do have a coupon for that press although the 20 ton press is usually the one they have on sale more often. The fasten to the floor is probably a liability statement if putting a big awkward object on the press you sure don't want it coming over on you. We don't use air and pump simultaneously. Air works good by itself. We don't get carried away using it on big things because we have a machine shop within 2 miles of our shop for anything that is really big.
