Subject: Fast Sprayers

What is everybody's thoughts on Fast pull type sprayers? Looking at buying one and thought I would ask the experts. Also, would you spend the money on the automatic boom height control? I know several years back, people were saying that they would not react fast enough for the change in ground contours. Raven system to be exact. Thanks in advance?

I my opinion, fast pull sprayers are the best designed and made pull type sprayers. I don't have one. Ive had a sprayer specialties that worked well and was inexpensive (but the paint was literally falling off) and now have a demco that I bought used from a neighbor. the demco is adequate, but I had to have a couple parts on the folding boom redesigned by local machine shop. not what you asked, but I would never buy triple nozzle bodies. (demco had them). I can change tips relatively quickly without those contraptions. I don't do much custom spraying, tho.

NW Iowa. / SW Arizona
I’ve stated on here before and will state again Fast sprayers are very good sprayers. I was in the market for a new sprayer and looked and had it narrowed down to either a Demco or Fast sprayer simply for local customer support. The Fast in my opinion has hands down a far superior boom between the two. I ended up buying a new 9613N 1350 gallon 90’ boom Fast sprayer and have zero regrets doing so. I don’t have any experience with the auto height boom control so can’t comment on that. I spray pretty consistent 7-8 mph and at that speed the boom is very stable.

I should’ve added I was using an AL Integra controller with it but switched to the AL 1200 Incoomand last year, both work great with it. Mine is set up for 6 section 15’ auto-swath and it works great.

Northwest IA. Near Ft. Dodge
We are mostly flat here. Got a Fast 9518. 120 foot booms. Company is the best. Had Summers before this, was good also, just farther away. No height control on ours, keeps a guy busy that’s for sure. I think we are only ones in area with this wide of boom running it manually. If buying new, I would maybe look into a system of some kind.

If you switch a lot like I do, they are no where near a pain in the rear.

Idalivered, we to currently have a Sprayer Specialties sprayer. I to have the paint falling off of the thing. It has done a good job throughout the years, but have done some boom work on it. Price is definitely hard to beat on the Sprayer Specialties.

I have a 9430 w/ 100 ft booms, I would not mind 120 ft anymore, it would work out better for me.
I love my sprayer though. I bought it used, pull it with 4440, only issue I had was the flip over boom cylinders were giving me issues, on a higher hyd pressure tractor they worked fine, say like a 7810, but mine were just on the border line of folding or not. Called factory and worked with their techs. They were very good and helpful, and since they had a couple others that was same way, decided in my situation to go with the next size diameter larger cylinder. I found some aftermarket ones for 1/2 price, put on new hoses while at it, and best thing I did, it made a BIG difference, plus slowed the fold speed just a little, which was a good thing too.

The only other thing I have found is some cracks at the flip over booms where the cylinder mounts are, nothing drastic, but something I watch for and keep an eye on. I drilled the cracks and rewelded, and its been fine since.

Mine has a side inductor, but I rarely use since my inductor is with the tender, and is larger.

Very happy with fold box, pump, valves etc. basically all Raven

I run mine with a Ag Leadaer Versa. Love the autoswath.

I would still like to have duals on mine for burndown if ground conditions would be a little soft, but then I need to change the wheel hubs according to factory OEM parts.
So if you are going to order a new one, I would spec it for duals, so you will have the larger hub to begin with, or at least ask about it.

I dont know if I like the flange seal connections yet....they work ok, but can be a pain when reinstalling to get alignment, because of this I have changed a few things to cam lock connections to correct this, helps for washing and diagnosing, I REALLY REALLY like the large Banjo strainers.

Mine has the 3 way nozzle bodies, I would never order one again with that option, just single, for me a one man band, I can wash booms, change nozzles and be running again in less than 1 1/2 hr. Usually get a break whether it be weather or timing when I need to switch anyway.

I mounted a large storage box on the side for extra tools and parts, NICE, especially if you have fields far away. I also made a receiver hitch that I pull a wagon and nurse tank if in a pinch.

VERY GOOD sprayer, and good company to call if you have trouble, I would definitely buy ANOTHER !

Edit: The frames are powder coated, I am not a fan of this, on mine, there are many places where the coating is lifting / peeling at a sharp edge of metal. I am a little tolerant of this on mine, I bought mine used, and it sat out along a State Route from the dealer for a whole winter and I am convinced it got salt and brine spray on it. It needed some love when I got it home. Proper cleaning, primer and paint brought a lot of it back to shape again, but I wish the frames were painted from factory with a urathane paint.

Good sprayer, probably the best built frame and booms. Only thing of concern maybe be the tank, it has two flat areas on each side of the tank for narrowing up the wheels. Clean out and flushing to prevent residual carry over is something to consider.

Not sure what a guy would be switching for, but I spray everything with one nozzle type, and seem to have pretty good luck.

I have a fast 9613 which has the 1300 gallon tank and a 90' boom I don't have the auto height control but my ground is mostly flat And it was a decent chunk of money for that option if I remember right. I use a raven 440 Controller and use my lightbar for the speed Input. I have mine set up on 15" spacing and 3 way nozzles And I like my 3 way nozzles they have not caused any problems. The 15" nozzles spacing allows me to run my boom lower and still get good coverage and helps out on the drift. I can also turn off every other row and use it for My homemade y drops To side dress corn. When I 1st bought the sprayer I had it set to 62" Wheel spacing to match my tractor but that made the booms ride a little rocky. Now I run at 90" wheel spacing so the sprayer matches the tractor Still and the booms run smooth I Like the tractor set up like this for when I'm Bush hogging along ditches to. The one thing I would recommend that I wish I would have done differentAnd will probly change in the future is get the bigger tire size optionThe standard 320? Tires are not wide enough Will leave cleat marks unless you have not had rain for 2 months. After the tractor tires of rain over The beans Twice having sprayer tires the same width of the tractor tires is no big deal. The skinny tires do not have Enough flotation even for half loads. The welds on this prayer are of good quality and I've had no cracking issues Anywhere. All the hoses And wires are routed really nice and do not get pinched Or rub. I wash mine off at night And greese it every day keep it stored inside and still looks new. Yes the flange style connectors are a pain But I think everybody uses those And be careful not to tighten that clamp too much cause they can brake later on. I would definitely buy another one and The dealer was good to work with 2.

I take it you grow corn and soybeans? We grow other crops that require other products that work better with certain nozzles.

I have a 9524T which has a 2400 gallon tank (don't fill it full) and 120' truss boom love the sprayer I have 480/50 rubber carries up good, have the auto boom height think it is the raven system anyways has the touchdown wheels on the ends of the booms works awesome, I spray at 10mph and keeps up fine in all but extreme conditions, very well built sprayer if I ever get rid of this one will get another FAST

We have a Fast 9613E with 14.9-46 tires without auto boom on 90" centers. We demoed a 9430 with auto boom on 60" centers before we bought it and found the sprayer/boom rode better with the wider wheel spacing. The paint still looks great after spraying a lot of 28%. We've had no problems with the sprayer and would buy another Fast again.

How old are these Sprayer Specialties sprayers that the paint is falling off? Sits outside all the time? I find this hard to believe, mine is 5 years old and looks almost brand new yet, I would take a sprayer specialties any day over a Fast.
