Subject: Cost to replace CVT transmission in Massey/ Agco 8470

I've read that this transmission is usually just replaced with new rather than physically rebuilt. Wondering what a new Agco CVT transmission would be worth to replace as a unit aside from shop labour? Anybody have any experience? TIA

Think I remember seeing a challenger for sale with the Cvt replaced on auction time and work order was for 25k

Not what I like to see. I just bought an 8480 this last fall. What happened to yours?? How many hours on the tractor?

Make sure you are in low in the field and change oil they will run along time. Don't shift ranges when your moving. I think the CVT is under 20 just for the parts.

Cheaper than an IVT.

72431914 is the PN, I can't remember but thought they were between 14-18k exchange for the insert/module, but that was an ML260 price IIRC not ML200.

There's nothing to rebuild, just swap the insert.

Labor is higher on MF/Agco/Challenger than Fendt due to differences in cab removal time and the hose routing over the access cover on the other colors. The trans insert and housing are identical, just differences getting the cab off and getting to it.

Don't change ranges when moving, even if the book says to, don't do it. Just don't, many failures are due to components for range shift. You only need to shift down if you'll be doing a lot of work at low speed. Or you can stay in low if you have no need for high. Extended heavy loads at low speed can wear them out slowly, but constant shifting when moving will bring about replacement sooner.

Keep high pressure filters on hand, change them as soon as the light comes on or 500-800hrs. If you start plugging them fast/frequently , stop and repair your brakes before doing damage to trans.

Don't tow it in gear, if it dies make sure to manually shift it to Nuetral(geared Nuetral, not 0mph)

I thought the brakes on a 8480 were not in the same oil system as the CVT.

They are not seperate, rear brakes and cardan brake (of equipped) are lubricated by transmission and are a main source of contamination.

Brakes, PTO, MFWD, Diff lock are all operated by transmission hydraulic system.

Not far off buying/full rebuilding a funk/19 speed power shift of that size really.

No its not, but you'll generally be rebuilding the CVT less often. Neither of our Funk Agcos made it to 4k without needing a trans, CVTs are doing great.

Plus a CVT replacement is much faster than a PS rebuild.
