Bancroft, Iowa | I am looking at supplementing my shop with a radiant tube heater. Currently it has in floor heat with an electric boiler. Not happy with it at all. Last month had the thermostat set at 50*, had a cold spell for a few days and the shop got down to 38* with the boiler running non stop. Bill was nearly $500. Shop is 48x72x16. The shop is not used daily, so I'm thinking if I add an LP radiant tube heater I can set the in floor heat to 40* to keep things from freezing and turn the tube on when I'm working in there. I'm thinking of running a 60' 175k btu tube down the side of the shop that has the bench. I have been trying to research them, and am finding many differences. Whats everyone using, do you have a preference? I see there are modulating, single stage, two stage, etc. For my application is one going to work better than the other? Anybody have brand preferences? I am just looking to add an economical supplement to what I've already got.

south east SD | I have a Reznor? Id have to look, sucks getting old!! My 60-40-16 shop has a 50 foot tube and I keep it at 52 degrees. I want to help my dehumidifier to work if my tractor and pickup come with to much snow and ice on them. I do have a floor drain but the humidity can get up there without some help. Installed in 2000 and have never done a thing to it. Now I'm jinxed!!!!!! I'm not in the shop that much but it is nice in cold SD winters and for my snow pusher tractor. If I set it at 60 its almost t-shirt to work in there. I know I use less than a 1000 gallons of LP a year, mild winters its 500. I'll check the model and report back on this thread. Alden MN | My shop is 60 x 80 x 19. I have two heatstar by enerco 150000 btu tubes. They are 60' and on separate thermostats. In 2013 they cost me $5700. installed. My local CPS (lp dealer) had them engineered according to building and they installed. NO problems and use very little lp and keep floor nice and dry! Keep mine around 58 degrees until grandkids come and then turn up a bit. Also only about 15-20 minutes for them to rewarm after door opening. Sounds like one would be perfect for you! gopher

NC Iowa | I would fix the problem, not put a bandage on it. Rip the electric boiler out and put an LP one in. Heated a shot a little bigger then yours on 600 gallons of lp last year set at 50. Cheap LP made it less then $500 for the whole year. You will still have high costs with the electric with the supplement.

Black Hawk County, IA | Original shop has 2 Roberts Gordon units. Built in 1989, had zero problems. Added 72 feet extention in 2004, put a Gordon Ray in, and has trouble free since. As mentioned, recovers very quickly after opening a door. J

NW ND | Reznor heaters in my shop. Shop is 42x56x15. One 40 ft down each side at 150,000 btu each. Keep it around 57 degrees. Door is open everyday and only burned 800 gallons last year and the same lp tank feeds my house too. They were installed in 2001 when shop was built and no problems. Combustion air comes directly from outside.

N.W. Illinois | We bought 2 30 ft long 100,000 btu Re-Verber-Ray Tube Heaters from Dultmeier for our 80 ft long shop. These are single stage. https://www.dultmeier.com/products/search/11344 You have to call for a price, I can't remember for sure what we paid but I think it was around $1200 each last year. We went with 30 ft tubes for ease of assemble and hanging. The tubes are not heavy but you want to support them every 10-15 ft. when lifting or you can bend and twist them. I can't remember if we hung the tubes first then the burner assemble or the other way around. We vented each tube straight through the outside sidewall. We put electric outlets near the burner assembly for power. Burners have standard 120 volt plugs. Radiant tube heaters provide great heat, economical, and easy to install.

SouthCentral WI | I have some Detroit Radiant (or also called Re-Verber-Ray) through Dultimier, and a very old Space Ray (made by Penn Radient) . I can still get parts even for the Space Ray after 20 or 30 years. They are all excellent with very little issue. Stay far away from Ultimate heaters. http://pennradiant.com/index.php https://www.reverberray.com/ Towman Edited by towman2000 1/12/2018 17:22
