NE Saskatchewan | We are leasing some 2018 model year combines and tractors from JD and I was disappointed to hear they no longer come with 2630 monitors. I liked the ability to use the monitors in other equipment at different times of the year.
They are currently ordered with 4600 displays, but I am wondering if we should go with 4640 displays instead. I realize they don't make financial sense if you are planning on keeping for a longer period of time, but we flip our combines and sprayer every 3 years, tractors a little longer. I really don't like the subscription based model, but when trading equipment every 3-5 years does the cost for renewal not get passed to next guy anyway? If trading something in with a 4600 with full subscription vs 4640 with expiring subscription -- will there be a monetary difference in trade value??
Does it make more sense in this case to order with 4640 displays so we can use in other pieces of equipment?
Is the functionality of the 4640 display better than the 4600? |

Waldron, MI | I don't think it's an either/or situation. The 4600 is built into the armrest like the GS3 command center was. I think you can add an extended monitor to have a second display. The 4640 is for older tractors that don't have a 4600 command center to be able to run new planters. |

NE Saskatchewan | I thought the 4640 was going to phase out the 4600 and the 4600 would no longer be available except as a 2nd display in future years? |

| If your equipment has a 4600 in it, I would stick with that option and not mess around with trying to run the 4640. Yes the unlocks that you buy with it do stay with the tractor for life, but so does the heated leather seat, xm radio, and powered mirrors. I would look at it more of part of the tractor and not a piece you put in the tractor.
The cost of the most expensive unlock on a 4600 (~$4,800) will get you every single activation for life with that machine. To do this with a 4640 would cost you over $10,000 in subscriptions over 5 years plus the $4,000 for the display.
I've used both the 4600 and 4640 this past fall, and while there were some minor things to get used to, the over all experience was much more desirable. I am excited to implement some of the new features deere has come out with recently for these displays. |

| 4600 - build into john deere tractors - will be primary displays
4640 - for people who want to run gen 4 displays in equipment that does not have 4600
Gen 4 extended monitor - has no processing power, is used for a second touch screen similar to having a laptop and another monitor connected. More screen real estate.
2630 - Works great and will work great for a while, but as we see more and more data being streamed to and from the displays, this one simply not be able to keep up. |

| +1 on everything McFlyAg has claimed.
Your salesmen should value your trade with those activations in the 4600 since they’re not removable and the guy who purchases your trade will benefit from those. In theory you’re purchasing them and then getting the value back when the tractor goes back to the dealer. Luckily comparing apples to apples on 4600 Activations and 2630 Activations the 4600 is much cheaper up front.
There isn’t much difference between the 4600 and the 4640 besides the mobility of the 4640 (processor location) along with the subscription fees. |

NE Saskatchewan | Thanks for the reply.
Do you know anything about the new machinesync? Dealer said new release this spring or fall that will make compatible with gen4 and will be a lot cheaper - won't need radio.

NESD | Machine sync as you know is not active for the Gen 4 displays but is scheduled for release in the 18-2 software release which is in early fall time frame.
Machine sync can be run either with a Machine Communication Radio which has a range of approx 3 miles, or it can be ran thru the JDLink MTG which gives infinite range but has a slight lag time of a few seconds, I don’t recommend using JDLink for combine/graincart because of the lag time and the cart not responding soon enough but for shared coverage and guidance line sharing JDLink works very well. |

NESD | Yes it will |
