Wondering if this tractor is worth keeping. We had to replace the brakes but not before they came completely apart and are now in the hydraulic housing. We've since had to put a new hydraulic pump and are constantly having to change filters, clean the screen, and are now having hyd pressure issues again (esp. while in reverse gears). Anyone know if there is any hope in this tractor? Sure can't afford another one with $3 corn.
Thanks

There is an end .....might not be in sight yet!

Went through this with a new to us 4955. We used wire to poke and hook and flushed as much crud out of the rear end as we could while we had the finals off.

Our problems started when one of the cones in the transmission filter covers stuck to a filter and was not noticed. They are supposed to be held on by a snapring but this one was missing or something. So we started having trouble with the rockshaft soldnoids.....replace and recalibrate...$700 a pop at the time. Then we found the filter problem and fixed that.

Then a front pump........., then the brakes which were down to metal on both sides and probably had been as long as we had owned the tractor. The previous owner must have kept cleaning the sump screen until it quit clogging up cause it never gave us trouble. Next thing it quit pulling ........replaced the trans pump......then another front pump cause we ran it too long with the trans pump not moving oil.

It has been good for several years now.

I think there are different micron rating filters you can use to really clean up the oil.

My favorite tractor I ever owned was. 4650 PS MFWD.

That being said...I would never get rid of it. For what it is worth and what it will do...it is not worth selling IMO.

Forgot to ask...how many hours, tire condition etc...what kind of shape is it in.

7500hrs. Tires are only a year old all the way around. This tractor is in awesome shape other than this hydro issue. Paint cab fenders lights everything. Dealers will only give me twenty on a trade and that just hurt my feelings honestly. This is my main horse and I depend on this Tractor alot. Don't need her to quit on me in the middle of planting season.

$20000!!!
That is a nice looking machine.
In all honesty...it would not be worth getting rid of but I know that just having a 'spare' is a luxury I can't afford either.
It is probably worth fixing the issue and making it dependable.

Nice looking tractor.

Get a manual or have your dealer shop do the "hydraulic system cleanup procedure", there is a kit to do it, but your dealer may not have it. At least drain it, pull the screen & flush it with diesel. May take a few tries, some oil & filters, but it will eventually clean up. Change filters before it sucks one inside out & fills the system again...A brake failure is always a mess...

Most likely the debris is near the load control shaft. Drain all oil. Remove arms then shaft. The roller bearings are going to fall out so collect them all before starting clean out. With shaft out i made a tool out of a rod with a small flat bar on the end (like a mini chopping hoe but just slightly wider than the transmission). Its going to take time, pacients and flashlight but i did it on a 4960 without any issues. The screen is not the lowest piont. U can take the rockshaft housing off to see better but that's alot more work to see better. This is much easier when finals are off.

on second thought, pulling the pto may give a much better view of the area than rockshaft for much less work. I didn't do it this way but u could pull the pto and see how much u have before removing load control shaft. The load control shaft bearings are the lowest large hole in the transmission.
