Marengo, Ia.

I've got a couple used New Holland 195 manure spreaders in my price range(cheap) that I'm going to look at.
What are some spots to look for?
What's a good way to tell if the web is shot?
Good way to check the tandem?
Thanks.

The return track underneath for the apron rotted out pretty fast on mine and caused apron breakage and sprocket jumping. If the wheels stand straight up, the tandems haevn't cracked yet, but they will. I fixed and fixed and ran mine until it was completely used up. hooked it to the pickup with blocks and jack and tools and spare tire and pulled it to consignment auction (surprised I made it!) and it brought $1500, $1400 too much. Like thr H&S much better.

When I was looking at used 195's I found quite a few that had the top cover on the beater gearbox rusted thru from manure laying on it. Take your adjustable wrench along so you can pull the check plug and see if water runs out. Also crawl underneath and check the cross members, especially toward the rear.

Hope you have better luck finding a good one than we did. We just went and bought a new Meyers and was done with it. All the ones we looked at were rusted through junk.

I wish I could afford new.... I'll just make due with someone else's junk. I can't keep borrowing spreaders.
Thanks for all the tips everyone!

we had good luck with knight 1040 and the older model 410-seems like there was better places to weld which the old 410 was a good learning welding teacher the 195 was much harder to patch and weld

Some guys must be doing a ton of loads or hard as hell on them? Ours done atleast 1500 loads probably 2000 piled until it runs over every corner and so far it's just been greased a lot, web adjusted, and one link taken out of the web.

Not cleaned up and sat outside is the death of most manure spreaders I've looked at....
