In the market for a 30' flatbed gooseneck and looking at a few of these....they all look like the same factory built them? There are actually quite a few local brands that all look just the same as these as well.

Prices are similar. Didn't know if one or the other was a lighter made deal.

I know I want the 10K dexter axles and the fold up ramps so I can haul 30' worth of hay. Anything else to get on one or to look for?

We personally use Pj's and are very happy with them. Load max dont look like too bad a trailer either. If you plan to unhook.hook up often i highly reccomend the hydraulic jacks since it takes about 50 cranks to do it. For loading hay i would maybe consider a torsion tube as well.

Central / West Texas

We have some of both.  Have a load max 32' dual tandem with hydraulic tail.  Have a Load trail tilt lowboy and a Pj of the same build.  The load trail trailers seam a little better built.  The factorys are in the same town.  Two brothers, one has each company.  Have hydraulic jacks on all of our trailers, well worth it in my opinion.

Edit to add. I believe the load max designation is for dual tandem trailers and the load trail trailers are everything else.  All built at the same place.  At least they were in 2014, which was the last time I bought a trailer.

Tandem 10k is a little light for hay. Have a 34' PJ with tandem 12k here and 18 cornstalks is right at 24000 on trailer axles.

FWIW 9k & 10k dexters use same hub and bearings; 12k and 15k share hub and bearings that are bigger than the 10ks

The Load Trail and PJ manufacturing plants are literally right across the road from each other north of Dallas.

The man behind Load Trail was either the P or the J in PJ. They were brothers or partners or something before they split.

Think pj does some manufacturing in Mexico also.

I bought a Texas pride 35+5 tandem 15k axles and elec/hyd disc brakes. If ordering, atleast get the 12k axles and if you are comfortable spending the money the elec/hyd brakes are worth every penny. That trailer will flat out stop when you need to.

I like loadmax over pj personally. Texas pride is an hour away and to easy to deal with or else I'd get the loadmax. Most pj trailers I've seen were 10k axles and they get creative on their ratings assuming you put the max on the truck. I like regular ole ratings without them being creative. How can you take a tandem dual 10k trailer and put a 25k lbs rating on it. It should be 20k, and whatever goes on the truck hits that axle weight

So, do the electric over hydraulics work with a brake controller just like full electric brakes? I assume a master cylinder sits on the hitch somewhere?

Any "brake leak problems" at the wheels?

Thanks

I don't know if they have what you are looking for, but at least take a look at Hull Trailers. I bought a bumper pull 14K flatbed tilt and it seems to be built well and priced the same as used 'big name' trailers. You buy factory direct and pick it up at their place in Southern Iowa.

PJ has better designs, Load Trail has better welds.

I have never been impressed with any welds on our PJs, and we have 5 of them kicking around the place. Judging by the factory locations, I am thinking Load trail must pay a buck or two more per hour for good welders. :)

If they didnt mind **** welds they should have let me come weld it so the price would be discounted some...

That said, I think the only options I am going to consider on the next trailer is a PJ or a Big Tex, since Load Trail does not offer the lo-pro pierced i-beam on the single tire goosenecks, and I will likely stick with PJ since they offer so many options.

I saw the other day a Load Trail 16K Single 17.5 tire gooseneck with air ride with a lift option on one of the axles, and it looked pretty slick, welds were nice, etc. but it sat pretty tall.

Installed E/H disc on both our trailers. No more apt to leak than the brake lines on a pickup. Can't remember the last time I heard of a brake line getting tore off a pickup, so figured they would hold up better than wires on a trailer. The EHB mounts on the trailer and is controlled by the brake wire from the pickup (hence term electric over hydraulic). Essentially, when you press brakes the controller in the pickup applies voltage to brake circuit, the brake circuit turns on a pump (gets power from accessory wire and trailer battery), and brake pressure is regulated by brake wire voltage.

Wilson semi trailers have 2 22,500 axles are are rated at 65,000 GVWR not 45,000 limit of axles

GVWR is the maximum weight rating of the vehicle; the maximum that GVWR can be is: axle weight ratings + hitch vertical weight rating, often it is less due to be limited by brakes, hitch, frame strength, etc. Example: 32' gooseneck trailer with 2 10k axles, 25,000# coupler rated at 25,000 trailer/7500 vertical you get a GVWR of 25,000 (2*10000+7500=27,500 but limited to 20,000 by coupler) same axles with 20,000# coupler would limit trailer to 20,000. Use a 30,000# coupler and GVWR could be up to 27,500 but may be set at 26,000 to avoid FET. likewise at trailer with 2 12k axles and 20,000 coupler would be rated at 20,000#. Basically, axles are not the only determining factor in GVWR for a trailer.

I would NOT buy another PJ. Cant get brake parts (backordered for months), lugs break off and require brake removal to replace.

While the ride on the PJ is better empty, the BIG TEX trailer seems to handle the loads as well and was 20% less new.

Not bad looking trailers but by the time you add in the optional 10k and 12k axles the price is about right where everyone else is.

They use standardized axles that brakes are available everywhere, I never even checked PJ and just ordered a completely loaded backing plate off ebay for 55 bucks.

Lug breakage is likely someone overtightening, and I think all 14-20K trailers require brake removal to change.

So I would say none of your issues were PJ specific.

I am definitely not standing up for PJ as I can complain about lots of things about them. :)

Just pulled home a new PJ 32' last week. It's a low-pro 27'+5' dove with the full-width monster ramps. The 33" deck height sure is nice. It's a heavy trailer, but it pulls better than any other we've had.

Considering strongly a new 32' Iron Bull dual tandem 10k dexters with the wide ramps. Priced at $8k. All the fancy addon's I don't really need or want to pay for.

I can't find a PJ or Load Trail for that price, and it looks like the same factory builds them all. Or the same family. Or they all use the same blueprint. Either way they are all built within a square mile in Sumner, TX.

They didn't on my trailer...apparently they got some over seas parts. My trailer guy couldn't find anything to fit...IOW, he didn't even get to sell me parts because nothing fit...and PJ was back ordered 30 days but they said it would be much longer.

I'd appreciate the site you got your parts from.

AFA lugs...they are not being overtightened. I think we were over loading a bit and then they broke on the turns. And I think the cheesy overseas assemblies likely had cheesy lug bolts as well.
