Grays Creek, NC | Our 225 Magnum has approx. 1200 hrs on it, we’ve been using this week for pulling a fertilizer spreader. Typically the engine load is between 30-50%, this tractor rarely does heavy work. This morning it started throwing the code 3589 and saying SCR system failure. You could cut it off and right back on, and the code would go away for about an hour, then come back. I parked it for 3-4 hrs, and then switched it to a 26’ disk. About 45 mins into disking, the red stop sign started flashing and it started beeping, and it was flashing SCR Failure but the code was gone. Now when you cut it off and back on the stop sign stays lit up and it says SCR system failure. The DEF tank is nearly full, and we’ve never had an issue with it before. Thoughts?

Grays Creek, NC | The tractor has the CVT transmission if that makes any difference.

Tuscola, IL | I don't want to bring the bad news, but you are parked until the dealer gets there. You've entered the "limp home" mode via the key cycles. Only way to get rid of it now is to hook the laptop up.

3589 is a fault code saying that the difference in temperatures between the 2 EGT sensors is too great, causing the SCR system to shut down. More than likely one of the sensors is faulty. You will need an EST laptop to reset the system in addition to diagnose the system further as to which sensor is faulty(there are probably other codes not shown as well). And yes, update the software on the DNox unit and ECU(engine controller) if they don't have the newest software. Good luck!!

Just had it happen to my 9230 combine, replaced both sensors because I didn't want to wait until an all night shutdown to determine which sensor was bad and a mechanic with laptop to "heal" the scr system.

Southern Ontario | JoelV - 9/22/2017 19:41 A magnum 225 is a Tier 4A tractor.
Not all 225's... I have a Tier 3 225 Magnum with a CVT.

DV, NV | 3 Strikes - You're Out! We plugged an SCR on a Puma 160 last year, what a PITA. Case is ver reluctant to warranty the SCR chamber but it supposedly can be soaked and cleaned. Use a borescope camera to explore the honeycomb and look for blockage. Maybe it will fix itself if you reset code and pull the heck out of the tractor for a long enough time to burn the residue out. Not handy if you don't have that kind of work to do. At least have them update the software and change sensors, hopefully you are still u dear the 5 year warranty on emissions equipment

Ours had flashed the SCR failure once just cycled the key to backlflush and went away. If a guy keeps his machine for 2-3yrs taking it off’s almost a no-brainer

DV, NV | This was a leased tractor. Won't hesitate to delete it once warranty is out.

Grays Creek, NC | It was the downstream temperature sensor. Dealer came out and replaced it, ran the tractor through a healing procedure, and it’s as good as new. Thanks for the input!
