Rivers, MB | We are in the market for a 3rd highway tractor/semi. Currently have 2 IH's. a 9200 w/ a little Detroit and a 05 9900 with an ISX. Have found a 2007 IH 9200 set up the way we want (475 hp, 18 spd, 46 rears, full lockers) and it has an ISX in it. 1.2million kms (750 000 miles). Truck is from a fleet. Full service records from new. Very well maintained. Price seems very reasonable. Only hang up is the motor. Hasn't been touched besides EGR valve a few times. Friend tells me to run away. ISX at that many miles/kms is a big concern. Is this concern legit? Have found trucks cheaper. But nowhere as nice condition wise and no service records. My gut feel is to take chance on the motor because everything else about the truck makes sense. Full service records are making me feel confident there won't be a bunch of surprises on the truck. But maybe I'm out to lunch. Truck will get less than 10000 kms (6000 miles) per year. And is a bit redundant at times of the year so not hard done by if its down. What's the wisdom of AgTalk?

Central ND | No personal experience here but if it's what you want I wouldn't be scared when you put those few miles on. It could run 15 years or it might let go tomorrow but you can say that about most anything used.......

east grand forks, mn | Isx is a million mile engine or 20,000 -25,000hr. That being said I would have the lower bearings changed and set the valves and you should be good. Would only cost around $1500 if done at a cummins dealership, as they have a speacial on the bearings if you pay for the labor. Any truck is a crap shoot if its gonna work out or not. If the specs are what your looking for and in your budget of what you want to spend then go for it. Good Luck! Edited by bogie5263 9/19/2017 15:17

Washington, IL | Isx's are known for their liners not being shimmed high enough. When the liner setteles a bit your head gasket blows My mechanic sees it all the time and saw it with mine also. Egr coolers are expensive and very common failures. Turbos are expensive and very common failures. Our series 60 Detroit was way more reliable. Trucks with those motors are getting hard to find. Good luck.

Urbana, Ohio | I have an 05 Kenworth T800 with an ISX. Major overhaul at 867k. I deleted the EGR valve & cooler. Took the junk VGT turbo off, replaced with a Holset HX60W turbo which also required a different exhaust manifold. I also had the truck PDI tuned. It runs as good as the E models & Acert Cats we also have. Currently at 1.1 million miles and rolling. Unless you buy a pre emissions truck, you will eventually have to replace / fix / delete that emissions component. For longevity purposes buy something and delete it (if it's in the budget). Sounds like the 9200 International is a well specd out truck. As someone previously said, its a gamble buying ANY truck

western manitoba | Hi Ron! I have a very good friend who's researched this recently. He owns an ISX truck since new that now has 2.2mil km and was considering an overhaul. The service shops he has spoken with are mostly surprised he's got that much out of it. Sounds like mostly they see them coming in at the 1.6-1.8mil km. My gut feeling about the truck you are looking at is the same as yours. If you like the truck, and the little things look like they are taken care of, I would go ahead with it. Anyways he's going to try run it for a while yet. He was quoted $28000 plus labour (Brandon shop) for a drop in ISX replacement and will go that way eventually. Overhauling his own would cost about the same but you never know when you get into it how much more you may have to replace. Edited by stockton 9/20/2017 06:35

Rivers, MB | Appreciate the feedback everyone. Seem general consensus is that if the truck looks reasonable, take the chance because it seems with used trucks, its a bit of a lottery anyways as to how long it will last.
