| I'm looking for some people who have experience with Krone large square balers. I purchased a 1290 this spring and have been having some problems. Some are just annoying, but some have me thinking about taking a huge beating to trade out of it this winter. I would like to get in contact with some operators who have had positive experiences to see if I'm overlooking some things that would improve my experience. I hate to make up my mind about something in 12,000 bales so I'd like some input. |

Texas | I'm on my second Krone baler (1290) and think it's great. What kind of problems are you experiencing? |

West Central,WI | I have 2 890s. I had Krone for 10 years now and have no complaints. I will say I do like the new ones alot better since they came out with the new pickup head in '13. |

Dalton, OH | I run 2 Krone 890's here in Ohio. I've lost track but have run 7 or 8 890's and 2 88's over the years. I trade a baler pretty much every year. Wouldn't own any other color, especially the new Deere ones. Email is good or just post your issues here. |

OR | I'm running 2 krones one 1290 the other is a 1290 high speed been great balers. What's the problem with it? |

| I posted earlier regarding difficulty achieving square bales on a consistent basis and we have yet to resolve that problem. I think the sensors are bad but Krone refuses to actually spend any money and continually suggests that I or my operators are the problem. However, when I put the same operator on a Massey baler, I don't have complaints from stacker operators. I have a good deal more knitter problems, I have bent 4 gauge wheel arms and then it dropped in a pivot track and caused damage in an amount close to 1/2 what the resale value apparently is. I know that neither I nor my help is perfect, but this thing is eating me alive and I don't know if I got a lemon or if they are just an optimal condition baler. My email i [email protected] if you'd care to get in contact. I don't care to detail much more here as I don't have enough experience to be fair

| Multiple problems detailed above, just looking for someone with maybe rough field conditions like I have to see if they've had lots of bent metal and related problems. We run these machines hard, but I'm seeing way more trouble in the Krone than the Massey and The reps keep pointing this back at me. All of the upper twine rollers on the Krone were frozen at 12,000 bales. I never see that before 30 k on the others. Just wondering if it's a citrus fruit, or if I'm not refined enough to appreciate it. I put my email in a reply earlier and would be interested to discuss further if you had time

US | What are you calling gauge wheel arms? Is it #1 in this diagram? I've ran my hard enough in rough fields that it has a hairline crack in the neck of it, may have had it there already but nonetheless I'm still hard on it.
Is the Massey a 3x4 or 3x3? Are these following the same rake? Did you buy baler new or used?
Sorry pic is so blurry, can't do anything about that. Dont have my parts book with me

Dalton, OH | Curious where you farm? Guessing west somewhere where you irrigate? Baling dry hay with Krone balers is actually not hard on them at all. Wet hay is what usually is the hardest on balers and from my experience Krone is the only one that can consistently do it. I've owned at Massey/Hesston and it was a great dry hay/straw baler, but we could run circles around it with our Krone's in wet hay. We have almost 0 knotter issues over 17,000+ bales this year on our Krone's. I think I broke a billhook but that's been it. Biggest issue I have is operator error when loading in the twine and not tieing a proper knot and then it comes untied and I have to re-thread. I will say with any brand of baler you need a good dealer to go with it. I have an excellent Krone dealer and they have these balers really tuned in. You might be better off with a Massey if you have a better dealer. I would stay away from the new Deere baler's as I haven't seen or heard good things about them. |

| I was referring to the arm that the gauge wheels(or tires) on the pickup attach to....maybe mount is a better term but we kept bending the shaft at the top where it rotates. The Massey's are 3x4's, 2270's. They do follow the same rake. I purchased the Krone new this spring although it is a 2016 model. |

| Yes, I do farm in the west and we do irrigate. Actually, I'm just a custom operator. The only place it's green out here is where the pivot hits. I am actually in southwestern Colorado which is pretty arid. We bale dry hay and actually use the Staheli West machines to give us a little moisture to improve quality. I don't know about dry vs. wet hay, but I guess what's hard on the Krone out here so far is the field conditions....deep pivot tracks, ravines, swells, prairie dog mounds, etc. I know most people will read that and think none of that should be an issue with a good operator, but we cover a lot of acres per day and only run 2 machines as thus far I only have 2 steamers. Doesn't mean we shouldn't still dodge all the alligators, but we're not perfect. The Massey's just don't seem to show my imperfections as much. And I will agree with you on the dealer. I actually purchased this baler because the JD store here in town sells them and I have no dealer support within 200 miles in the Massey. However, they don't have a lot of machines out, and even though they try, they're not baler whizzes. Thanks for your input. Do you wrap your wet hay? I am thinking about trying that on our third cutting because we do get quite a bit of rain on that one. Just trying to work out a close enough market to make it work. I'm interested in learning more about it. I appreciate your input |

US | My advice: call the Krone na number tomorrow and have them tell your regional service manager to give you a call. They usually block their number and call you. Tell them your issues and that you bought the baler new and I bet you can get somebody from memphis or Reno out there and they will be able to help you more than any of us can on here.
At first I didn't think sensors, I was thinking operator and especially if your Massey was 3x3, a monkey could drive those and make good bales. But a 4 foot wide takes some attention to keep filled evenly. So at that point I might suspect sensors. On the knotter part, look at manual and the specs about running it through tie process by hand and measuring different spots to make sure it is precisely aligned the way it's designed. Especially if you're running it over rough areas that can move those alignments. Might want to check them every thousand bales if your having that much trouble out of knotting.
If anything, call Krone and tell them what's up. They have really good customer service when you're actually dealing with Krone themselves. |
