SE Michigan | Almost impossible to search for on the internet if you don't know the brands out there. What are some brands or models to look for? Need one for mowing ditches and small/ light brush and trimming trees. seen a few bush hog's listed on tractorhouse, were all new and no price. Seen a few land pride ones as well, looked fairly heavy(?) How many hyd remotes you need for them? I assume most have a PTO pump that runs the cutter and (??) the boom cyl's as well (??) Tractor choices will be a IH 986 (540 / 1000 PTO) and (2) remotes, or a Case IH MXU 110, equipped the dame, but since it's sitting on 14.9x 46 singles, I would prefer to use the 986. should also add that I currently have a Bush Hog SM60, its OK for ditches but I need to cut up higher (over hanging tree limbs) Edited by BBfarms 8/13/2017 18:24

The middle of Maryland's Eastern Shore | I really like my Amades(sp). It has an 18 foot reach so it requires a big tractor and four outlets. I do not know if they make smaller models or not.

South Western Ontario, Canada | We have a Diamond 3pt flail mower. Destroys everything it can touch. Not great at fine grass though, just blows it over. It's completely self contained no hydraulic outlets required. Pto and electrical power and that's all.

Cleveland, MS. Own small farm near Booneville, MS | I have a Bush Hog that I really like. 5 ft cut, 3 pt, requires two outlets. Has a one way cylinder that raises and lowers the cutter and a two way cylinder that slides the extended reach in and out. Has a pto hydraulic pump to run the blades. I run it with a 4020 with no extra weights and would not want to trust it on a lighter tractor. This is a "stock photo" I found on the internet. Obviously not my machine but is the same brand and design. By giving it a little time to chew I have cut saplings up to 5 or 6 inches in diameter. Just need to keep the blades sharp.
Edit: Never mind. Went back and reread your post and see that you already have one of these. Jumping to conclusions without reading to the end will get you every time. :-) Edited by clevepreach 8/13/2017 22:08 (BHsm60.jpg) Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Southern Illinois | Your 986 will have a hard time with a few things. Slow enough travel speed will be one and handling a 3 pt mower with reach would be the other. I saw one of the bush hog pictured above and the guy took a laminated bush hog tire and wheel and made a caster wheel on the heavy side of the mower frame to help with weight. They were only mowing roadside so it was on hard ground.

Eastern Shore of MD | I have a Hardee LR40160. Love it. It's not one of their BIG ones but does a great job. You'd need to figure out if your tractor would run it as I'm not familiar with them but it only requires one remote (for all movement functions) and the pto for the blade. I use a Ford 8830 and think it's a bit over kill but that's ok. We have it set up where the mower is 540rpm but the tractor is 1000. Then I only run the tractor engine at about 1200 rpm (about 600pto) so I'm not screaming the tractor engine all day while mowing easy ditches. If I get into tough stuff, the 8830 can still easily handle it, even not being in it's ideal rpm range.

Is that yours? I need one and most of the ones here are flail, I prefer a rotary but all the ones I come across don't have the height like that one.

Landpride has one. Ok reach but, not the highest. Use it on a 110 Maxxum.
