Eastern VA. No such thing as too many Magnums. | I went back and did a search on previously discussed waste oil heaters. It looks like people like CleanBurn the best. I'm leaning that way. But a few have had success with the HECO drum kit. I know there was some questionability on the life of the barrel. I figure enough time has elapsed to get an idea on the kit. I'd like to hear success stories from guys who have used them at least a season or two. I'm looking at HECO, CleanBurn, Lanair, Columbia, Mechanical Systems, Reznor, AgSolutions... Any others to consider. Any that DONT work?

East of Dowagiac Michigan | I worked in a shop that had a Lainair. It did require some cleaning of the nozzle at times. I think they got 15+ years out of it before they replaced it with another one.

West Central Iowa | I have a Lanair that replaced a 20+ year old black gold. After one season the combustion chamber was burned through. I had to send pictures on my installation into them and they found a very hooky reason (an elbow fitting on an oil return line) not to honor their 10 year combustion chamber warranty, even though right after mine was built they changed the design to keep the chamber from burning through. The change was to add another fire brick panel to the area where mine burnt through. The parts man admitted they had a real problem with this and that the elbow had nothing to do with my chamber burning through, but the decision was made by someone higher up then him. I had my BIL who owns a welding shop replace the end plate in the chamber and I added the extra fire brick panel and it has been fine since, but I found out their warranty is worthless and I will never buy another one from them because of it..

Kirkwood Il. | I've had 2 Reznors. Have CUSSED both, but when they get straighten out, work really well. The key is to have a back up furnace, and understand how a Used Oil Furnace works. Air in system, plugged oil heater/nozzle unit can be really frustrating. Nothing like walking into your shop, with the day planned, flipping on the lights,(florescent) seeing them flicker, and having your nipples get hard(due to the cold) as you walk to the furnace to see if lockout light is flashing. That said, Rezenor is still the best IMHO. John. Edited by dwag 11/21/2008 21:02

Yadkin County North Carolina | I have a clean burn for 5 years , always needs to be worked on,pump coulping, nozzle, fire box, service man charges about 500.00 to come out

Seaford, Delaware | Rafe, I have lot's of customers who have them, but never heard any of them say they love them, although they do get rid of all that excess burnt motor oil. My neighbor has a small coal stove in his shop and he loves it. Cheap to operate. Only problem I see if you decide on the waste oil burner, if you switch to Schaeffer, you won't have enough waste oil to keep it going! LOL Alan

I got a hold of a used clean burn from a business a couple of years ago and just love it. It's probably from the early 80's and was used for all it's life in a dealership and now in my shop. They replaced it with a new one but I don't think that one is any better than this old one. It is starting to rust through a couple of the exhaust tubes but I've leared to not completely clean out some of those tubes and high temp silicone all of the holes up. I clean it once a year(maybe tomorrow) and replace the filters probably 2-3 times. If I were to buy a new one it would have to be a cleanburn. Know of a new lanair and he hates it. FYI tips(freeze oil before bringing in to help get rid of the water, watch who you get your oil from, keep it clean like you're going to dump it back in a vehicle and keep the synthethic oil out if possbile).

Eastern Ontario | We have Clean Burn units. Problem on this side of the border is that oil is starting to be regulated. Guys are checking to see how much oil is purchased and how much gets picked up. That is the reason that used oil is hard to get a hold of now. Not sure what the regulations are where you live, but make sure you can get enough oil to keep her burning. We've had these units for a year now with no problems. You do need to clean it out at least once a year.

Southwest Missouri | We have had ours for maybe 6 years. We use it on weekends. It is still on the first barrel. We welded 2 3/8 pipes in it for more efficient heat transfer. We also added a second barrel with more pipes. It does a good job for us. I would buy another one if we had it do over. It is not a stove to run 24 hours a day. It is best to start each morning after cleaning the ashes. It takes 10 minutes.

Nusbaum Farms LLC Bellfountain, OR | Clay-All-Over - 11/21/2008 20:00 Problem on this side of the border is that oil is starting to be regulated. Guys are checking to see how much oil is purchased and how much gets picked up. So what happens if you have an engine burning a bunch of oil, or a leaky hyd. cylinder on a disk that "has to finish the season"? Will they get up at arms over a 25 gal difference? 50? I would say I couldn't live like that, but the truth is that I probably will be soon. Change, you know. -Orin Edited by massey760man 11/21/2008 23:37

Nusbaum Farms LLC Bellfountain, OR | We've got a Lanair. I'm reasonably happy, although I might spend a little more for a better grade of furnace next time. The parts dept leaves a little to be desired, I've had better luck ordering through a Utah dealer's website. All the tips above are good, and don't forget to check the oil and air pressures once in a while, and visually check (and adjust) the flame once a week or so. Too much flame will wreck the firebrick. -Orin

West Union, Illinois | Clay-All-Over - ...on this side of the border is that oil is starting to be regulated. The driver that picked up our used oil this fall says it is a violation of regs to transport it without proper equipment and documentation. Also. it is legal to burn waste oil generated on site, but not for someone else to bring their oil to you. However it is not being enforced by anyone because the net effect will be improper disposal of a lot of oil.Always before we have had our oil picked up by a local mechanic to heat his shop. We got full this summer and could not get him in motion to come get it so we called Safety-Kleen. They picked it up the same day ( we happened to call the day the truck was in the area ) at no cost, waved and went on down the road.

Brazilton KS | I have heard of incidents of Safety-Kleen being responsible for regulatory attacks against anyone who does not use them, or who has used them and stops. Beware.

aka Black Gold is a good one. No target walls to burn out, the stainless chamber should last for your grandkids. Moving parts of course will wear eventually same as all brands, but it's pretty easy to work on. Kinda pricey but a good product http://energylogic.com/index.html
