Western-Central Lower Michigan
How deep (actual) do you work to consider "subsoiling", and how deep is disk ripping? Need to know if these are "interchangeable" or are totally different tools.

Schlegel Farms, Hagerstown Indiana
In this part of the country.

A ripper is generally a tool that goes below the plow hardpan layer, a disk chisel is simply a chisel plow that has a row of disk blades to cut trash to prevent plugging. A ripper runs at a much deeper depth.

A subsoiler is the same as a ripper ...... a disk ripper has disks to cut trash and prevent plugging.

Totally different tools IMO. We use to have a subsoiler, ran 21-22" deep. Had to be careful if you had any shallow tile. Used it mainly on end rows where trucks were loaded or paths where the grain cart ran. Currently running a disc ripper, usally 12" deep, would go deeper if we had more hp. Disc ripper will bury a lot mor trash, subsoiler shatters the subsoio more but doesn't disturb the surface as much.

South-central ohio
IMO a subsoiler and a disk ripper are different. A subsoiler IMO is an inline ripper, and its sole purpose is to break up compaction. Very little disturbance on the surface. A disk ripper has rows of disks, followed by more curved shanks that don't go quite as deep, and many have some sort of leveling attachment like rolling baskets or more disks. Guys use disk rippers to bury residue, break up compaction, and soften ground up. They are much more aggresive on the surface and "blacken" the soil. Hope this helps.
