NC Iowa | i know it is not Jaguar from mills fleet farm. now i know it is not this from tractor supply. years ago, used to get holland extra from the local coop. maybe they still have it. what ever it costs, if it good, it is worth it. nothing worse that having twine trouble when it is 90 degrees and clouding up. pic shows how frizzed up it is. i think that it breaks when makes a knot in these spots. if i was brave, i would try plastic. i think i have to make bill hook adjustments to use it, and not sure what to do. Small square? i always preferred to get clover brand

Huntley Montana | UNLESS you have sheep, GO PLASTIC 170 knot 7200 or 9600. Couple ajustments & you will NEVER look at sisil again. Bridon, Exxon both good

WC Ohio | Sisal seems to be having quality problems the last few years. I believe most of it is made in just a couple of factories and gets different names on the paper. 9600-170 plastic is what we used for years with a JD 336. 9000 seemed to have more busted bales.

Lawton MI | Agree with using plastic, we've had great luck with New Holland brand in NH baler.

Upstate Ny | We went plastic 3 or 4 years ago.. much fewer problems. I would imagine there is not much difference in brands....we are using balecord. Edited by jcwag 7/18/2017 20:49

candor ny | Same here 9k sisal is hit or miss 7200 is pricey and plastic is strong and cheap. Only problem we had switching was had to tighten draw tension from twine box. Edited by cjd12000 7/18/2017 20:47

East Central Saskatchewan | Why do you have problems with plastic when you have sheep? I have used plastic for a long time and have never had any problems.

WI | Another vote for plastic if your knotters will work with it. I've tried everything under the sun for sisal twine. Actually, I have great luck with Jaguar 9,000 plastic, which is surprising because their sisal twine is crap. Good luck, there's nothing more frustrating than trying to beat the rain with junk twine. Especially this year.

Southern Nevada desert | Saskyfarmer - 7/18/2017 07:27 Why do you have problems with plastic when you have sheep? I have used plastic for a long time and have never had any problems. I was told that they dock the wool price for poly tails in the wool. Bridon poly here.

East Central Saskatchewan | Go with plastic, have very few troubles with it. I use Balecord in blue, (9000 feet rolls I believe), I hate orange now since I know blue is so much easier to see and work with when stacked. Edited by Saskyfarmer 7/18/2017 23:30

East Central Saskatchewan | Oh, I didn't know that. I usually clean up the tails before I feed, and the ewes are outside on pasture so they don't get affected, but I will have to watch for that now. Agree, same as Sheep Herder. Edited by Saskyfarmer 7/19/2017 10:24

Western WI | I vote plastic. 328 jd with kicker

North Central Illinois | I can't get plastic to work with the belt type thrower on my baler. Works most of the time, but when you get to a thin spot in the swath and the bale sits at the base of the thrower for too long and it melts right through it. Also, I find enough plastic twine wrapped on rotary hoe bearings that I don't want to add more to the collection. It seems like even if you try your best to be tidy and throw it all away, there's always something that gets in the wrong place.

SW Minnesota, Lyon County | I'm late to the party for this thread, but really Paul? I've got a 24T that plastic is the only thing that makes it happy. Had an Oliver before that and ran plastic through that like no tomorrow. The sisel (sp) we get around here , not far from you Paul, is anywhere from pencil lead to quarter inch in size. Just doesn't work for us as far as baling. I'm not the end user so after it's in the barn, it isn't my problem. This is my experience for what it's worth.

just a tish NE of central ND | Are you sure that is 9000 twine? Looks so thin....... Seems all sisal twine sint what it used to be.

Northern CA | I sell a couple truckloads of twine a year plus use about 12 pallets myself. I have had excellent results with Cordex, Poly Excel and IFS. I am sure you can find a dealer for one of those near you. I had a lot of quality control problems with Bridon one year. I was very disappointed in how the company didn't stand behind their product.

Lincoln County. NC | 2 years decent results selling Holland Extra bought through New Holland via Briden. This year it has New Holland wrappers. Not one complaint AFTER the sticker shock. My customers have largely switched to Tyrite Blue 9600/170 plastic in the last 3 years.

Northeastern Pa. | Clover has worked good for me. TSC had a brand that I never had an issue with but they switched suppliers now so I don't know. I bought the last of their old stock at the local store.

Plastic Orangeline 7200 170# knot strength. If you can get your baler to run it it's consistent and tough stuff. Natural twine is just too inconsistent anymore.

170 plastic twine. I don't even consider anything else.

We've used plastic for 10 years and never, ever had a dock on the wool. I've never seen plastic twine fragments in the wool for that matter. Just put up 400 square alfalfa bales with plastic last week and they are all going to the sheep.
NAQ |

Mt.Gilead Ohio | We use 9600/210 it's bigger diameter for Knott strength. You can really make a bale plus the thicker plastic is easier on your hands
FarmOR |

Eastern Oregon | Most of you using the 170 tensile must be making 50# bales? Around here, 100# bales are the norm and 210# plastic twine...

NC Iowa | I used to get twine call green cow. Was happy with it. Always had good luck with tractor supply until this time. Jaguar was inconsistent thickness, ranging from .25 to binder size. My experience is twine quality has down as much as price has gone up. Thanks for all replies. I need to serious consider plastic. Don't have much hay anymore, but when I go out to bale, I want to bale.

Southern Nevada desert | Sheep Herder - 7/18/2017 17:01 We've used plastic for 10 years and never, ever had a dock on the wool. I've never seen plastic twine fragments in the wool for that matter. Just put up 400 square alfalfa bales with plastic last week and they are all going to the sheep. Maybe I was fed a line of BS, the conversation was with a sheep man who grazes my fields in the winter. He claimed that the sheep wool picked up the 1" cut tails that the knotters leave behind when the sheep bedded down in the alfalfa fields. He runs a thousand head or so, I just assumed he knew what he was talking about, I should know better by now...........
Fawazhay |

Northern CA | I think grazing the fields is different than feeding sheep hay with plastic twine. I wouldn't discount the issue.
