EC Illinois | I have a 140 HP (JD 6140 front wheel assist tractor) and am wanting to pull a 15 knife NH3 bar for side dress. Is this enough horsepower? I appreciate any input that you can give me. |

ne il | Add 100 hp at least here anyway. You may pull an 11 knife maybe. |

Black Hawk County, IA | X 2 |

SW. IOWA | 140hp wouldn't handle 15 knives here. |
West Central Indiana | X3 You'll probably struggle with an 11 shank. |
Southern IL | We have a nice 11 knife for sale if interested! |

WC IL | I tried a 15 knife in the fall several years ago behind 150 horse FWA. Never again. |

McCanna, ND | Depth plays a big factor along with tillage practices. We pull a 15 knife 7-8" deep with a 8410T in mintill and that's all it wants at 6-6.5mph |

NE / NC INDIANA | Sorry lewy.

United States | We pulled a 9 shank with a 1486 and a 11 shank with a 1586 , that was enough here anytime. Not even sure we could have carried a 15 knife with a tank behind.

Like everyone else sorry. It isn't always about HP as much as it is having enough weight on the tractor to get the traction you need. Here we have too many hills and you could pull an 11 with good conditions. If it pulls hard, you make struggle.
Had a neighbor who cranked up the HP on a FWA tractor and tried pulling a 15 K and was over 200 HP. He didn't have enough weight and ran out of traction and couldn't put the NH3 on deep enough.
Not enough Horsepower, not enough weight. |

68340 | JD 8200 MFW chipped pulling 13 shank in the spring about right. Could pull it with out chip, just not at a constant speed of 5- 6 mph. Prob. could pull 4 mph constant unchipped. |

North central, IA | You might consider taking off half the knives and injecting in every other row middle. You'd cover the same width and probably be able to do it with that tractor.

Central IL | As all the others have said, nope. I have a Case IH Maxxum 140, very similar to what you're talking about. Tried an 8 knife on 60" centers (40') and it was a load! Always seems like side dress nh3 pulls much harder than preplamt for some reason. Here anyway. |
| Set it up so your putting a knife down every other row. Easier to pull. That's how I set up my side dress bar. I'm pulling 6 mole knives and that's a workout for my old 7040 Allis.

Brookston, IN | If you are wanting to use 3pt mount I think all of you steering would be done by the brakes. We run a 15 knife CaseIH bar on a Magnum275 w/ 1000 lbs front weights and duals, there are times when the front end gets light especially in transport. |

NW Central Ohio | ..I have 150 HP 7120 on an 11 shank bar. Both heavier, and more torque. No...your tractor won't pull a 15 shank bar. |

Macon, IL | I pull a 12 knife with a 175hp 4640-and while enough power often run out of traction. It likes the 11 knife much much better.
I am not sure you are going to have the weight to keep anything that size at depth necessary to seal. |

Chebanse, IL..... | As others suggest, I'd also say you need at least a 200+ hp size tractor to handle 40' bar. The weight of the applicator (mounted I presume) will make the front end light unless you can get a lot of weight up there. Transport isn't safe with a smaller tractor. If that big bar starts waving around while roading, you can find yourself heading for the ditch. I'm sure someone here pulls a 15 knife with an 8N Ford just fine, but our experience says get a bigger tractor, or drop to 12 rows (11 knives). Don't forget, you will also be pulling an 8-10,000# tank behind the applicator. If it ever gets a little soft, you'll be looking for more tractor. |

| We pull a 15 knife on an 8640, and it worked a lot better when we pulled 13. According to tractor data, that's only a 111 pto hp tractor. Be lucky to pull 9 here. |

Findlay, Ohio | We side dress with 23 knives on a JD8310 with no problem at all.

Nc Indiana | That's an 8310R not an 8310. Little bit of a difference. |
