New Holland TL 90
How are those tractors ? there are TN TS series also, don't know what it means
It looks like mechanical F/R shifting on the TL 90 ?
How do they compare to a john deere ? and what model ?
The NH has a loader open station MFD and 2500hrs what is it worth ?
Looks good in the picture, going to check it out tomorrow, too wet anyway.
TIA
Nik

If it has a dry clutch look away. If it has a wet clutch than it'd make a good utility tractor. I had a 7635 which was predecessor to tl100. Ate 3 clutches in 2000 hours. Loader work is too hard on dry clutch.

Sorry, 3 clutches in 2000 hours is operator failure. Dry clutches aren't ideal, but that clutch is good for 2000 hours given reasonable treatment.

I have one at work, it's not my favorite piece of equipment. Mine has a left hand reverser but there were a ton of transmission options on these according to the book so the one you're looking at may not. My biggest complaint is the hydraulics are painfully slow for loader work, I thought I had a problem and had it checked out but was told there was nothing wrong and that's just the way they are. Also, if you're going to use it for loader work make sure it has the weight package or you have something heavy to hang off the three point as it's really light in the rear end. Mechanically mine has been pretty sound with no major issues in ~1500 hours but I use it pretty much exclusively for loader work so that's why I don't care for it much.

Edit to add: My opinion is based on the earlier TL90, mine is a 2002. In 2004 or 2005 they changed models to the TL90A, I don't know the differences between the two but wanted to make myself clear on the tractor I was talking about.

Do you have personal experience with these tractors? 3 clutches is not operator error. I can see being hard on the first clutch or 2, but by the 3rd one, I imagine you'd be trying to get every hour possible out of it. There are tractors out there like the Agco Allis 5670 or the Kubota M6800 with dry clutch that were inherently hard on clutches. 600~ hours. And then the same operator can get close to 5000 hours out of a clutch on a Kubota M6030.

20 years experience at a NH dealership. I've wrenched on and sold parts for a ton of these tractors. I'm not 'imagining' much about them.

They certainly aren't noted for their hydraulic flow.

To the OP; if the reverser is floor mounted, it has a dry clutch. If the reverser is steering column mounted, it has wet clutch packs.

I'm not going to completely disagree that it is a fair amount operator error. Hired help doesn't like to downshift when doing loader work and love to ride clutches. It was by far the biggest problem tractor I have owned. If it were doing basic mowing, hay work, or field work it wouldn't have been so bad. It spent it's life here almost exclusivly doing loader work which it is not capable of. I have other acquaintances that have the same tractors with wet clutches and they have no issues. I had a tn series with a wet clutch/left hand reverser before that was problem free. I went up one frame size and regretted it.

Yes, get a weight pack if using it for loader work.

Dad has a TL80A with dry clutch apparently (wasn't aware there were options) but we haven't had issues in probably 2000 hours with that. He bought it used to feed cows and mow hay. Really needed FWA for loader work but it is LIGHT in the rear end. Have had the rear wheels come off the ground unloading trucks and have had it loose traction when the ground gets sloppy. FWA would help with that.

I have a buddy that bought a used one at an auction. Came from a chicken farm where it was purchased new. It is not babied, more like abused now. He has replaced the hydraulic pump a couple times,a bearing in the transmission. (rockshaft seal was leaking, ran tranny low on fluid) It does have a dry clutch which has not been replaced since he's owned it. The abuse he gives it, they must be a pretty tough tractor!

Well , I know it recently had a new clutch.
I will use it mainly for yard work lifting things, save my back .
Move snow in the winter and run the auger during harvest.
But I will test run it and check out the hydraulics too.
