Anybody still use these?  I see they are still on JD's website which surprised me a little.  We had one and it was our first air seeder back in the mid to late 90s.  Worked wonderful since we were conventional till at the time and seeding into mostly trash free soil.  We had to go to eastern MT to buy it and then trade it up in Tiber AB Canada when we went to a air hoe drill and no-till.  We actually widen it out a couple of feet which was easy.  Other then ours I've only ever seen one other 730.  If we ever went organic we would probably find another one.

Still use one, i removed all shanks and harrows, so basically it's a press drill. Great for canola, biggest issue is tank tracks can be hard to penetrate

Yes still use one for a few acres of wheat every few years. They kind of got a bad rap around here at first, should of has scrapers on press wheels from factory made a night and day difference in depth control. Positive is usually planting into moisture and takes out first flush of weeds, also levels field out well.

I saw another guy do that. I thought it was a great idea. This drill did have a few shanks left on it to scratch out the wheel tracks. The shanks remaining looked like they had been moved into 6 inch spacing. Also the harrows were still on it.

Many of those drills here at one time when things were plowed. The less tillage, the more people hated them. Cultivator pulled up moisture and with increased residue left in fields, the more they plugged up.

They still seem to hold some value here. With a 1900 tank they seem to still bring close to 20k.

we still use ours for wheat. It works well as we broadcast urea ahead of the drill then work the urea in/plant the same pass. lots of guys used them around here, single discs and hoe drills have taken their place in the last 5-10 years

I would say the 730's are the most popular air seeder in the basin by a wide margin. Most guys use box drills, but if someone has an air seeder, there is probably a 90% chance that it's a 730.

NW Minnesota

I still have one, in fact this is only my third season with it, & no its not only three years old either.  I can count 4 of them within 5 miles of our farm.  Mine came from the neighbors two miles away.  Use it for wheat and soybeans, I will not run fertilizer thru it.  After last spring I rebuilt the gearboxes since they were original.  Put plastic cup flighting in the auger (787 tank).  I agree about the packer wheel scrapers, mine did not have them so I designed and built my own.  Easy to work on compared to the new single disk JD.
