Last year a video of a CLAAS Lexion combine towing a grain cart was uploaded to this site. I didn't add any info or still photos to explain it very well. However, I've started a youtube channel where I re-uploaded 2 different edits of the combine/cart combo video with better explanations and photos. This version has added text/graphic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNlum2fyfZk This version is a little more kid oriented: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKQJcZ38YLo If you have any questions or comments, feel free to post on the vids. I cross paths with the farmer on occasion and can relay them to him.

EC IL | Other than it's a wagon hooked to a combine nothing else is the same. It has a second unload on the combine no unload on the wagon.

Wisconsin | Wouldn't it be more similar to this? I thought I read about a company who made kits to pull grain carts behind combines in the past. Edited by 3500ctd 2/11/2017 16:18 (resize.jpg) Attachments ---------------- ![]()

These look like old designs. I wonder if they didn't gain much attention due to less of a need. Lower yields, smaller heads, and less hp etc. With higher yields and increasing capacity, the workflow is creating more demand for expansion.

Tuscola, IL | From what I remember reading in those the cart was powered by hydraulics from the combine. I can't imagine those older machines having much extra capacity in hydraulic power. Maybe the Deere Titan combines, but I can't imagine trying to run one with the hydraulics on a 14 or 1600 series CIH.

C IL | I think that idea would work best for someone running a solo combine and cart. Hard for a single cart to keep a big combine rolling. I figure guys running multiple carts, even with multiple combines, are having higher percentage uptime. Interesting idea.

Central, IA | There was a pto on the back of the combine powered off the seperator drive belt. I have 2 in the shed somewhere that came off 9600's.

Central, IA | The idea died as combines got bigger. We had a pair of 9x00 combines in the 90's with 6 row 36" heads pulling carts in corn. When the STS series was released, we traded for 1 combine and a 1000 bushel cart.

NECIL | Guy I worked for out of Jr college had a 9600 that he pulled a cart with. Worked out pretty slick. Most times it was just him and myself in the fall. He would combine and I would run the two trucks to the bin site. The cart helped him make it work. He could easily make a round with an 8 row corn head. As I recall the pto was run off of the same hydraulic lines that the chaff spreader was. We had to take the chaff spreader off for corn and put it back on for soybeans.

I made a comment on one of the videos on youtube. I think it is the coolest setup ever. I know it is not a new concept and all that, and I dont care. I just think the builder of this system did a great job with the cart being on it's own and the conveying system to fill the cart.
