south central MN | They are pretty good in general, my brothers are running one I bought for them quite a few years ago, has about 6000 hours on it now, had to put injector cups and injectors in at about 4500 hours, have not done much else to it other than replace water pump. |

Ludington/Manistee MI area | Neighbor has the tranny out of his but has lots of hours. If I could afford one I would like one. |

|
Sunburst Montana | They go a lot longer then that if they have good maintenance. Some Hutterite colonies around here have some that were 18,000 hrs plus with just one overhaul. |

Clear Lake, IA | We have a early serial number 1997, it was one of the first off the line. It gets Plus 50 and filters every 125 hours and the tractor is in great shape. At 5800 the oil pump shaft broke in the pump and things got real ugly real quick... Crank and block were junk. We have a ATU and a Brown Box in it and works great for us but we are kind of married to it now with the new create engine in it. |

66524 | I have a 1995 or 1997 ,can't remember. Had to replace injector cups and injectors .Someone told me JD recommends new cups every 2500 to 3000 hours. It is a PS which dealer says is very strong. Also this is a 7600 hour machine,Cheap power . Good luck |

West Chazy, New York | Injector cups and water pumps are common failures. The water pump is a serious concern; if it breaks the shaft the drive gear can get into the timing gear train and destroy the entire engine. I took one apart that had thrown the idler gear through the front cover, bent the camshaft, broken the head, and bent about half of the valves. Customer ended up buying a long block, and the clerk from Abilene Machine told me they recommend changing the pump every 2000 to 3000 hours. If it has a gudgeon with a bushing you will likely end up replacing it with the bearing version if it hasn't already been done. If you have time, the old gudgeon frame could be machined to take the bearing if you have the capabilities to do it. Much cheaper than replacing the gudgeon frame. That age you probably want new isolators for the cab. |

West Central IL | They have a destroyed water pump sitting at our deere dealer with a sign by it. Replace water pump every 1300 hours on 12.5L and 13.5L engines or serious damage may result. |

| Isn't that something? A water pump wipes out an engine! I have seen it happen on a 9420. Every round you make in the field could be your last. |

N East Sask, Canada | And Deere still sells the same engine/water pump? What are they thinking losing reputation. Don't forget the axle bearings. $25K per axle if they go too long. How about drive shaft failures and damper between engine and tranny. Major mess if that craters. And always those pesky injector cups! Traded to avoid all the bad news.

66524 | For what it is worth, I did talk to the service manager of a Deere dealer. I have known him for a good while and trust him. He said regarding the water pump that they may have two or three failed water pumps a year and usually they are or have been leaking by the seal and obvious for a long while before they wear the shaft into and have major problems. I know I will watch mine more often.
Probably the worn grundgen is harder to trouble shoot due to the weight to lift. Will be doing that also shortly.
