We are starting to look for our first self propelled sprayer. I noticed the newer Spra Coupes are cheaper than Apaches and Rogators of the same age. What is good and what is bad about Spra Coupes?

We just got a different sprayer and looked at spra coupe. Ended up going a different direction due to worry about parts and service availability in the future. We had a Willmar sprayer and went thru all that already! Spra coupe made a good sprayer. FYI a newer 7000 series with a few hundred hours on it sold at Ritchie Brothers in the 50000 range.

What model? Generally low volume post machines. Also not nearly as stable on hills. I've only ran rogator 854 and spray coup 230. Not much comparison there. Looks like newer of each keep getting bigger.

We are looking at 4660s I haven't called anyone yet just looking what is out there for sale. We farm just under 2000 acres of tilled ground. That we go over at least three times. Don't think we can justify a $125000 plus machine. Thought the Spra Coupe looked like a good starter machine.

North Central Kansas
A lot will depend on how many acres you spray each year, and how much water you apply.
The tank hold 420 gallons full.
7gpa.60 acres, 10gpa, 42 acres
Road speed in 17mph ish
60 to 80 foot boom
they are light, you can get into a field a couple days sooner then you could with a big machine, just on the weight of the machine alone.
I feel pretty simple to work on.

Now with that said....it all comes down to what YOU want.
Do you want to travel fast on roads, 100 foot boom, 750 to 1000 gallon tank, more comfort features in the cab?

knock on wood, so far mine has been good to me. I have 1300 tillable acres I farm, all close to home. I don't road it, I have a nurse trailer/sprayer hauler. I would rather use the semi to move from field to field, then take forever driving up and down the roads.

my nickle.

North Central Kansas
2000 acres times 3.
6000 acres times (local's charge you?) lets say $5 just for application
$30,000 year one, 60,000 - 2, 90,000 - 3, $120,000 - 4 years.

And you can spray when you want, you don't wait in line, and you put in the tank what you want.
you will also find the chemicals and herbicides cheaper as well.

No other piece of equ on your farm will pay for itself quicker then a sprayer

I purchased a 4440 with auto trans and Perkins engine 3 years ago. Overall I really like it.

Pros

Low cost
Sips fuel
Lightweight, barely leaves a track (this is its best feature in my mind)
Very nimble and easy to run
Very little crop damage post spraying
No hydrostatic drivetrain to lead to expensive repairs
Can pull behind tender unit making a 1 man operation

Cons

Small 400 gal tank (hard for high h20 volume applications)
Only 60 foot boom (some have 80)
Slow going down road
Small cab. (I don't mind it but a large guy would be pretty tight)

Wallis, TX

Son's got a 4660 with a 93' Pommier boom, optional one size larger tires and a Raven controller.

Pros

Light

Stable as long as you go to 120" with it

Nimble on ends, around obstacles  I can actually get more acres per hour in fields with lots of obstacles than the 1286 due to faster boom folding.

Great A/C, keeps me cool on the hottest of days in south Texas

Cons

Small cab, comfortable, but real cozy

Small payload when running high GPA

Clearance could be a little better for taller cotton

I don't like the Raven controller, too many glitches

Overall a good machine, would get another if this one blew up

For what you,are going to do, coupe will be fine. However, I think with your budget, you would be happier with a Case IH 3185'machine. You could get one around or right under 3000 hours for under $50,000. I have run and continue to run both doing our own and custom work. We use the coupe for smaller fields to take the burden off of the bigger machine. Even though the coupe is a smaller and simpler machine, we work on it more than the 3185.

I bought a 4660 last year coming from a 90' 1200 gallon pulltype. I was worried about the small tank, but I'm not any more after I ran it for a year. It is so light quick and nimble that I love it. There isn't room for a buddy or to do any dancing in the cab, but it's very comfortable and the ac will freeze you out on our hottest high plains days. Having a good water tender is important to the success.

I had a lot of 600 acre days, big commercial guys might not be happy with that, but a 32 gallon tank of fuel will run all day. :)

Being 6'1' , I added 1-1/2" risers between the seat and the suspension . Can not believe how much this helps. Have done this on most of our tractors also.

Huntley Montana

I've got 1 of the last 4660s made. 80' booms. Spray 8-10,000 acres a yr with it.  Have Trimble Autopilot & EZ Boom. Bypassed the Raven, & swapped the valve solanoids to 12V& .  Best day was about 1000 acres Alfalfa.. Lot of 6-700 days. Keep a man in the water truck.

Light , Nimble, & sips fuel, fuel tank is small, have had to fill again on good days but I think it's only 44 gallon.

Parts should be good , GVM is building a KNOCKOFF now..

I spray about 6000 acres a year with a 4460. Works really well. It's very nimble and easy to get around. I have 80ft booms. The only thing I don't really like about it is that they are the lighter duty booms. I wish they were the heavy duty ones.

We bought a late model 4660 last spring to back up and help our JD 4730. We use it on the small fields and it is very nimble and much improved ride over JD 6500/6700. I know where there is low hour 4660 for sale for a wholesale price. Email is in profile.

Running late model 4660 - be sure to get the heavy square tube 80' booms and a good auto steer system and water supply and you will be happy

Run a 7660 with 90ft booms. For our operation it works great. Although we don't apply any P or K via liquid and only apply 30gal/ac of nitro at any given time. Although we did do 60gal once and it sucked.

Booms are weak, other than that it's been great.

Subject: Just to follow up...

North Central, NC
Not wanting to get this thing off track but I made the deal to purchase the sprayer and I think I made a good decision. Im gonna do a follow up post with pics but have already wired a deposit for the machine and as it stands now Im heading to Cassville Missouri January the 5th to get the machine weather permitting. I didnt want to say anything about the machine as I was afraid I would miss out on it. This is my first experience buying off of tractor house and definitely a first buying something 1,000 miles from home. Super excited and I will do a follow up post with pics when I get home. So far its been a great experience with one of the best people I have ever dealt with. Definitely ready to heap some praise on the seller. Also was curious what AGTalkers I would be passing near on my trip? If you would rather email is good

Edited to Add... I decided on a Spra Coupe for all the reasons people mention. Light, mostly mechanical drivetrain, and most definitely price. They are the perfect set up IMO for small operations, especially those like myself who turn all their own wrenches. At your acreage it would be easily justifiable, as Im a smaller outfit that you are. IMHO which is worth what you paid for it
