Paris, IL | I test drove a 2009 versatile with the cat ta-22 Trans and when I was trying to shift it up thru reverse gears with my foot on clutch it would only shift up to r2. Is there something wrong with Trans or do I not know how to shift it. I don't think I tried while moving but can't remember. Thanks. Don't wanna buy a problem. WC MN & Valley of the Sun, AZ | Suspect cold oil temperature is what you noticed. When the transmission oil is below roughly 70°F, reverse is limited to first and second gear. R3 and R4 are really fast ground speeds and impractical for normal farming use in my opinion. The pedal on the left is not a clutch pedal in the traditional sense. Think of it as the back up to an implement or maneuver inside a shed pedal. In normal operation, leave foot off the pedal, pick engine rpm and gear and push the shift lever ahead. Your transmission clutch life will appreciate that behavior. Even with something like a ripper buried in the ground, from a dead stop select say 5th gear, rev the engine to 1800+ rpm and push the shift lever ahead to put it in gear. Did you drive a 435, 485 or 535?

Newfane NY | A 485 and 350 here. I think it is called an " inching" pedal. I have a person I know who works at CAT that tells me the less I use that pedal the longer the transmission will last. I trust his advice. (IMG_20161123_134759294_HDR.jpg) Attachments ---------------- IMG_20161123_134759294_HDR.jpg (320KB - 187 downloads)

West Central IL | I've also found, you either have to have the pedal all the way down, or all the way up for it to change gears. If it's in between, then it won't change. Same as changing directions, I found that out with the grain cart after a bit of spilled grain.

heartlandfarmer - 12/10/2016 21:20 Yes it does. Cat powershift in versy tractor? Clutch has nothing to do w/ changing gears, all in the the gear shifter. You can sure use the clutch as much as you'd like but as one poster mentioned it won't live as long. Clutch is designed as an inching pedal to be used in close qtrs maneuvering.
