I did a google and still couldn't come up with what I'm looking for. Which has more footprint on ground? 18.4/46 or 20.8/42 And where did you find the answer. Thanks

I went to the Firestone website and here is what I found: Radial All Traction 23 tire

18.4r46 base plate = 365 square inches

20.8r42 base plate = 420 square inches

They are the same height and the 20.8 is 2" wider with deeper section height, so obviously it is going to have more contact area.

Plowboy, What I found is Dia=76.2,W=21.2,cir=229.1 on 20.8/42 and Dia=77.1,W=19,Cir=232.2 on 18.4/46. I might be wrong but I don't think they are the same height given those specs.. Robert

Different brands will be different.  I just looked at Michelin site and there is about 1/2 inch difference in overall diameter in their tires that size.  Close enough to run for duals.

Those numbers are as close as brand x compared to brand y compared to brand z in the same size, or even different tire models of the same brand.

Loaded radius within under an inch is pretty much the same size.

Overall diameter will vary with different aspect ratios because of the difference in squat with the smaller wheel/more rubber.

For instance the row crop tires I run on my sprayer and the floater tires I used to run on the rear of it for burndown run together okay with the axles tied together and locked in, but looking at them the rear ones looked a good 6" taller.  My skinnies are 95 aspect ratio and the floats are either 55 or 50's.  44" wheels vs 25" wheels.  If the skinnies were squatting as much as the floats, the rims would be hitting the ground!
